I run BFG MUDS (255-85) on the 90 and BFG AT (285-75)
Both I find good in the slipery stuff but the muds are better and AT are quieter on road. Boy |

Hi use BFG Muds on 110 and they arefine on the road, just take it easy in the wet. Road noise is OK AT's are quieter on road but not as good in the mud, so go for the Muds.

Boy, do the 255/85 Muds rub anywhere on the vehicle. Is your vehicle standard or does it have a lift?

I rate Goodyear MT/Rs very highly.
Excellent in the mud and well behaved on tarmac. |

How much of each do you do?
BFG AT or Cooper ST should be plenty good enough unless you're doing serious mud (comp, pay and play). They'll both be much better than the standard GGs but you'll still get decent performance on road. Safety-wise, the most important thing to do is not to compromise your on-road performance (esp in wet). I'd plump for AT over mud. |

BFG MT every time they are great on road and fantastic offroad. Anything else is a compromise

BFG muds work really well for me. Had some on my last 2 Defenders and they are currently fitted to my new one. I use my vehicle as a daily commute and also it sees lots of mud and rubbish all year round. I can't rate them highly enough.
255/85 will give you a little more height and still a good width ratio and are ideal for everything. I run 265/75/16 on mine and have had no problems. I can also recommend Cooper ST's as well. Excellent tires with a fantastic compromise in tread pattern between AT and MT. I would recommend you have a look at these too. Unless you are planning on driving through the really gloopy stuff, ST's are great and will outperform an AT. |

Again - it all comes down to how much extra grip you need on the farm.
If you're pulling heavy loads in really soft ground then MTs or STTs would give you significant extra grip. However, they're intended for 80% off-road use and on-road you'll suffer more noise, less fuel efficiency and, most importantly, a greater braking distance (especially in the wet). BFG AT is more like 50:50 and a better compromise IMHO. Cooper ST is in-between the two. |

I reckon I use mine about 70% on road and 30% on field and track. I usually tow a heavy duty twin axle trailer on and off road loaded to a total weight of 2.5 tonnes. From what you are all saying it seems that an A/T would be my best bet? I certainly don't want to compromise braking distance on road it can be hairy enough in the wet with a full load on at the best of times.... Cheers one and all Shropshire Lad LR 90 XS GONE! Hurrah! |

Based on the description of what you have just described, I would recommend going for the Cooper ST as it will give you most of the advantages of both MT's and AT's. If you ever have to venture into a field rather than just tracks, I would opt for the extra grip it will give as the terrain from swithching between the two can change dramatically from a wet and slippery track to a gloopy field. It is better to have more than you need when you dont need it rather than not enough when you do!!!

sorry mate been away from the pc. Yes I have a 2" lift on the 90 but not on the 110 with the 285's. |
