Hi Fraser
welcome to the forum It does sounds similar to the master cylinder fault that I had recently - mine was fixed with a replacement and has been good since.. It may be that the clutch/slave are on their way out .... the pumas do tend to go though clutches a little quicker than the other earlier defender models as as yours is 2007 it may be that this is time for a new one. there will be those who have more skills in this area who will give more advice soon Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html Elgar -TDCI(Puma) 110XS Dormobile - now sold Devon & Cornwall 4x4 Response - DC126 |

Have a similar fault on my 2009 2.4 done 75000 miles. 2 hours on motorway and pulled off and could not disengage gear. Has played up off and on for a few weeks someone advised slave cylinder probably needs to be changed and it is in the bell housing. Just about to tackle it but would like to know if this seems the most likely fault. Sometimes will not go in gear but turn off engine and can select gears no problem. Gearbox out ?

Before you commit to taking the box out, change tha master cylinder,
They are cheap to buy, and more of a common fault with weak and wearing seals, rather than the concentric slave, In my experience, these give very little trouble in opperation. 80" 80" 86" 88" 90" Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered. |

Thanks guys, I replaced the master cylinder but still goes a bit soft after a motorway journey. Will try bleeding the clutch again but think I might have to go down the new clutch and slave cylinder.....but that would be after Xmas

Went through this two years back.
Master solved it for about a month then back to the same ol' shenanigans. New slave and while we're at it replaced clutch too, fine since. Master can be done in the driveway, bit of a fiddle space/knuckle wise and then there's the bleed but all doable. Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants... |
