Door checker bracket re-install
Hello,

Been working on my front door. Some deadening, central locking and electric windows install, general refreshment.
Had to undo the hinge (hope it's the right word) - element in the place marked red on the picture - as it was bent and needed straightening. Started when installed on door but than the rivets got loose so had to undo them anyway.

Been having problem now as it seems the rivets must be 8mm at least - 6,4mm, that are easily available, are too small.
Can anyone tell me what should I use to install the hinge back?

Can you get to the back? If so, then nuts and bolts. If not then a suitably sized rivnut. Darren

No, of course there is no way to get there from the other side. Otherwise it would be obvious.
Been thinking of the proper rivnet as well. Just thought there were other "repair kits" available.

With a bit of Googling you should be able to find breakstem fasteners up to at least 10 mm dia. Finding somewhere that'll sell 2, and ones that can be set without special tooling might be harder though.

Failing breakstem, then go for Rivnuts.

As this part only locates the door stay and is not under any great load, hence why it is only riveted in place why not drill out the rivet and sikaflex adhesive it in place For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Yes - I could weld it in, but seeing it damaged (to some point) I would like it to be demountable for future potential repairs.

Gilarion - I've seen few times the door "fly away" with a heavy wind - I think there are quite significant forces applied in such circumstances. Will use 9mm stainless steel rivnuts for M6 screw.

Door checker bracket.

the bar that attaches to it is called the check strap or door checker.

The part number for the bracket is LR020252, it's only about 20 from Land Rover. Seeing as yours looks to be bent you may as well fit a new one i think?

Annoyingly Land Rover don't seem to list the rivets on their catalogue.

Interesting to know that this check arm can be bought as a spare part. Contacted LandPartsSystem here in Poland yesterday (they sell Land Rover parts) and the guy told me this part was not available as a spare Shocked

Well - repaired mine and will use rivnuts as fixing plus some strong glue underneath.
