Roddy plus one. for every vehicle I've ever owned and ever will (until I finally get my hands on a 993) other than that I don't buy five new 'uns, just the four and keep the best of the oldies as a spare.
The only argument against rotation is uneven wear across the tread blah blah blah, but if you notice that you should in any case identify the cause and correct it. Peter |

Not the case with mud tyres. These will always wear unevenly if used on the road and must be rotated so that the direction is reversed if you want to even up wear.

The conditions you drive in have a huge influence in this. I tend to rotate and balance every 10 000 km I then rotate balance and align every 20 000km. Where I drive the tyres are subject to varied road conditions potholes, gravel / off-road. The vehicle will be subject to various load conditions etc. The posters here that think tyre rotation is not really necessary probably do not drive in the sort of conditions I face. In my situation careful monitoring of tyre pressure, rotation and balancing can double tyre life!

I don't have the time to worry about tyre rotation there are more important thins to deal with I think its really sad 😭 |

I mentioned this thread to my wife....
She simply responded by telling me that the tyres rotate themselves when you are moving It wasn't worth continuing with the conversation |

I'm sure that I read on a Land Rover service sheet "Do not rotate wheels and tyres" and I think it's in the hand book as well.
The advice I was given from the Independent I use and the tyre place was to swap front and rears, near side front to near side rear and the same for off side to even the wear as the front tend to wear the edges due to the steering effect. This effect is even more pronounced if towing. The tyre place charge £5.00 for the whole job and the Indy do it for me on services as they have the wheels off any way. Don't make old people mad. We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to us off. Richard |

I agree, tyre care and inspection is MUCH less important than things like Nakatanenga bling and whether or not my LED interior lamps match the ones on my bumper... Peter |

So, I’m a bit thick and have just followed this method but cannot work out why this particular method is better than just swapping front to back; other than utilising the spare? Roody’s method as above... |

If you swap front to back and side to side, each tyre has it's direction reversed, which helps to even out the wear. Including the spare in the mix is just to use the spare. Otherwise, you end up with four worn tyres and one brand new but old one. Darren

I do front left to back right and front right to back left.
Keeps the wear even, the fronts do wear faster. Then when I come to replace them I can replace a whole, evenly worn, set! On all my 2wd cars I just replace the fronts, put the backs on the front and the new ones on the back. |
