Need a louder indicator warning..
My wife loves driving our Defender, but complains she can't always see the direction indicator warning lights on the dash, because the steering wheel partially obscures them. She is not the tallest person, and she says that she is always leaving the indicator on, as the self cancel is not always that good.

Does the TD5 use a traditional flasher unit, like my Series 2? If so I know I can wire in a simple buzzer. Or does anyone else have another solution? Rather than a buzzer, just something that makes a louder click would be OK.

Any suggestions? 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

Yeah TD5 uses a traditional flasher unit. You can wire a buzzer quite easily using a couple of diodes (one from each indicator circuit to the buzzer then to earth). Easy to pick up the two wires needed at the warning lights on the dash binnacle which would be a good place for a buzzer.

Cheers

Booster seat! She already has a cushion to sit on, but complains it's not heated like the seats, and I can't afford a taller wife. Wink 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

Yes flasher unit is behind the binnacle. You need to pick up the wires after the stalk though or the buzzer is unlikely to work properly.

Have you ever considered moving to Norfolk?

A lot of people round here don't consider indicators to be important and never use them Rolling with laughter

Or never turn them off. Indicating right and then going left whilst on the phone is a county sport.

May help. When I swapped to LED indicators the replacement adjustable relay (Hella knob on top to adjust the speed of the flash) is much much louder than the original LR item.

But if you want a louder buzz, a bit like on a HGV or Bus then;

Can you remember if the adjustable flasher relay for use with LED's is the Wipac branded item, as mine is and is much quieter than my OEM relay and I would like it to be louder, so I am hoping it might be the Bolt-On-Bits one? In which case I will get one Thumbs Up Rob

I Had a similar problem and I ended up buying three of these

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12V-Piezo-Elect...2821343796

and then wiring one onto each of the indicator bulb's on the display block in the main Dash

They make a heck of a racket and general force you not to leave the damn indicators on.

volume control is achieved by gaffa taping the two back to back.

no diodes required and they take such little current it has no effect on the flasher rate TD5 90 in Hertfordshire

The Bolt on Bits relay is very very quite so much so I can hardly hear it above the engine noise. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..
