I had the same query a few years back when I fitted LED interior lights to my Puma, so I got my trusty "yellow meter" out, and had a probe around!!
Here are a few pix of the 10AS output to the LEDS.. The 'scope shows the LEDS full on, fading down, and "off".. As you can see, it looks like a PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) signal to drive the interior lights.. There is about 1.74v across the LEDs when "off", which depending on the LEDS may cause a slight glow.. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge ... ,-------, .. I like to think of it as 'ambient lighting'. Lots of posher cars have it.
On a dark drive, I often just switch to off though |
