Thanks for all the great comments guys.
CY88, yes that was what we figured re wheels spacers, in fact we bought some at Newbury. Hopefully we will crack on with the rebuild during the winter leaving most of the spraying until the weather warms up in the spring. Great work
I know these are questions are a bit of "how long is a piece of string" but how long would you say it would take take get the front bulkhead off? Mine is a bit scabby on the passenger side and I want to treat it properly early next year 1993 200 Tdi 90 CSW 1956 Series 1 Hard-top 1958 Series 1 Soft-top |

Kit tough question as you say, there is a lot to do just to get the bulkhead off, I am not sure I would want to do it unless it was part of a complete strip down. The worst thing is the sheer number of cables, the wiring harnesses that run thru the BH are immense, even on and old 1989 90 with no electronics.
I labelled every connector before I pulled them apart, but I am still dreading putting that part back together and connecting it all up to the battery for the 1st time, battery switch required I think Can the repairs not be carried out with the thing in place? Obviously you wont be able to galv it, but with it all stripped back you should be able to get plenty of protection around the repairs which, by definition, are the weak points for corrosion anyway. Good luck with it, take some photos and guys here will give you their honest and valuable advice I am sure. 2007 90 Puma - Love it - Best car I have ever owned. 1989 Ninety 200tdi - Love it - Second best car I have ever owned. 1951 80" Series 1 - Love it - Third best car I have ever owned. |

That looks great I will give you a tip on wiring, test it before you box it all in. Its not a hard process just takes time to do. A little bit of time with wiring and you can really do a neat job and even wire in some extras too if you are going to put anything in. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

Thanks Procta, all advice is very welcome. Everything will be pretty much back in place before the body goes back on, and therefore checked and tested before it all gets covered up. Our next jobs are brakes, clutch and steering ready to get it running again for mechanical checks. Most of the wiring will wait until after that. Can't wait to drive it again. Mad thing is its still has a current MOT 2007 90 Puma - Love it - Best car I have ever owned. 1989 Ninety 200tdi - Love it - Second best car I have ever owned. 1951 80" Series 1 - Love it - Third best car I have ever owned. |
