You mean oil is weeping out of the nose of the rear axle just behind the propshaft flange? If so it is the rear diff pinion seal which is not difficult to replace but you need to make sure that the surface of the flange it runs on isn't pitted or grooved. As a matter of fact they changed the seal on my Puma during the first service its just had as it was weeping - as did the one on my last Puma too. Steve.

I do seem to remember that there (has/was/is) problems with the seals going. I would like to have a go myself at replacing the seal. I had a D3 before the Puma and apart from cleaning the handbrake gubbins and changing brake pads it went to a dealer for everything else, was wanting to get more hands on with the Puma rather than just rely on dealers and not know myself how to tinker around the beast.
Has anyone any experience of doing the DIY way? I'm out of LR warranty to. Sweep 2.2 110 XS SW ---------------------------- Gone; 08 D3 XS BN55 WPV G4 4.4V8 D3. O7 G4 Mongolian Recce 110 USW |

Yep that's the badger Miserableolgit I didn't as said think it looks to much of a drama. I'm going to give it ago myself, hate paying hundred quid an hour to local dealership for something that I should be able to do myself.
Once again this forum has saved my skin! My Missus curls her top lip every time I happen to mention that I've noticed something wrong with the beast! Sweep 2.2 110 XS SW ---------------------------- Gone; 08 D3 XS BN55 WPV G4 4.4V8 D3. O7 G4 Mongolian Recce 110 USW |

mine has had a tiny drip on it for a couple of months but after a 800 mile round trip to Snowdon last weekend the axle casing was pretty moist. Gone back to the dealers this morning for a repair under warranty.
Does anyone know if 1 - the pinion bearing race (in the diff nose) can be replaced without pulling apart the diff - ie can you do it once the oil seal is out and; 2 could the oil seal leak be caused by worn pinion bearing and/or UJ on the prop - I have a slight vibration when I "accelerate hard" around 60mph which could be propshaft related |
