12v Battery Query.
Hi,
Have a perfectly good 12v battery which I want to keep as a spare. Is it best to keep it always fully charged (and how often should it be charged?), or is it best to occasionally run it down and then re-charge?
Thanks.

A decent maintenance charger is best for them. There are various smart chargers available, Lidl often do a cheap one. But there are also solar chargers which are quite good.

Failing that giving it a gentle over night charge with a normal battery charger once a month should keep it reasonably healthy.

They don't normally fare well if you just leave them to run flat and store them flat, that normally kills them pretty quickly.

Batteries tend to discharge more either side of @24 degC, not liking extremes of temperatures!👍

Assuming a lead acid, leave it on a ctek permanently, it will take care of the rest!

Equally, I have had batteries sat spare and just charged them every few months, and not noticed any real deterioration
