I had this exact job done on my 90 earlier this year. Can recommend the YRM bracket, got one on mine and was able to weld (apparently not always possible depending on the state of the axle and if the weld will take or not).
Can't answer the oil or measurements questions but I had Essex 4x4 do mine and it was just over £100 IIRC. Good luck! SG 1994 Defender 90 300TDi 2002 Disco II ES Td5 Auto (SOLD) 2011 BMW 120d M Sport 2012 Audi A5 Coupe 2.0 TDI (Other halfs) |

I did my own.
No need to drain it If you grind away the bracket with care you can mark straight lines with a marker or hole punch guide points YRM The axle was off, which made it easier. I put strengthening plates over both sides too, for extra peace of mind. I initially forgot to scoop out the strengthening pieces, so there was no travel for the rear arms the joys of self build!!! |

Thanks SG/Greeni, I'll keep it in mind.
The rest of the axle looks good so hoping welding will be okay, it is just the bracket. I'll crawl under for a picture tomorrow, it looks more like a crack that something that has just rusted through from a quick look today. BORG - Bucks & Oxon 4x4 Response Group |

Britpart also sell the bracket and its up to spec for the job.
mark the centre line position of the current plates welded on with centre punch into axle, cut off the old ones, mark again, clean it up remarking the centre punch holes as required depending on how much is needed to be ground down. line up new one with centre punch marks you dont need to drain the oil out. if still concerned you could jack up the side your working on (then use axle stand to support) Cheers James 110 2012 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

That's good news.
The rest of the chassis is sound, just seems to be this bracket. BORG - Bucks & Oxon 4x4 Response Group |
