The cesspit that is Bradford was much more pleasant when the average life expectancy was 20 years. (I have family in Bradford so don't condemn) Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

I wonder if people realise the issues that UK companies and private individuals will have when the UK leaves the Single Market?
4x4 Overlander has paid for some goods from outside the Single Market. They have been in the UK since 28th September at Coventry. Border Force have to raise the duties/taxes due on the goods. Ooops they are still at Coventry because Border Force are recalculating tax due. Now the goods are closer to us being in Leeds. Parcel Force will not release the goods until the duty and their fees are paid. We will pay the duty etc when we are told how much, however only slight issue is that no one will tell us how much is due. Have emailed them requesting an invoice so we can pay any charges. We should get a response within 4-5 working days. It is a good job these goods are not perishable. Now just imagine the delays in goods coming from mainland Europe after we leave the Single Market! Two weeks+ to clear customs. Who is having a laugh? Think about the chaos after we leave the Single Market! Brendan |

I share your feeling about unnecessary quoting - I always cut & paste and leave unnecessary parts out, however, the pictures are already in your devices cache memory and won't effect bandwidth that much... Also in effect the pics are not really reposted, but only the image url is reused. Blame Parcelforce.
We regularly import stuff from Switzerland - technically outside the EU. If stuff gets sent by Swiss Post it gets from Switzerland to the UK within 24 hours and then takes up to 3 weeks for Parcelforce to send us a letter telling us that it has arrived and we need to make a payment. If we opt for the even more expensive version from Swisspost, it gets to the UK within 24 hours and then is cleared by TNT and delivered to us the next day, followed by a bill for the VAT. Now resigned to paying loads extra for each delivery just to avoid Parcelforce. |

Main problem was Border Force/HMRC holding it for assessing duty liable, then reassessing duty, then delays in releasing it.
Yes Parcel Farce is living up to its name! Will only get worse as we live the Single Market. Now my issue is that I have customers waiting for items which has been delayed by Border Force/HMRC/Parcel Force incompetence in handling this consignment. Brendan |

Yes, but we found whatever method Parcelforce use to clear it through customs takes 2-3 weeks. TNT can do it in from the same destination in 24 hours.
I have found calling to chase often prompts a miraculous discovery of said item in system the very next day. |

Except that the UK is still a preeminent force in the global economy and whilst there will be a degree of political cutting off of noses to spite faces this will be moderated by not wanting to do lasting damage to home economies by making it too difficult to trade with the UK. This is after all what all the current trade talks are about. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon. |

Ouch. And I thought that B..x.t talk was virtually banned from here.
Look at it the good way. After you're gone, you will, likewise to ourselves, be able to go shopping on your visits to France, Italy, and all other EU countries, and get the 20% VAT or something close to that which you paid in that EU country, back after you ask EU exit point customs to stamp the invoice as seen for export from the EU. Works a treat if you travel by car or plane, as in 99% of the cases you will be able to avoid to have to pay UK VAT at UK entry..... Unless of course UK customs will significantly increase their border customs checks at airports and ports. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

Eric, are you advocating fraud or tax avoidance?
As far as border controls, I doubt much will change in that I, as a born and raised Brit, mid-forties, no convictions, living in the open-border EU, who's served his country, etc etc, often gets stopped for a question or two by my place-of-birth border force, (if I am unable to use the auto scanning passport thingy), for no rhyme or reason as far as I can tell. That will no doubt continue. On the subject of passport controls, Eric you might be able to help explain why Swiss border control at GVA takes so long when I want to LEAVE the country? 30mins queues sometimes....
