Maris widgeon -
How is everyone sorted for mapping? I made the plan of the couple of lanes from the meet location to the edge of the Plains in around page 2 on this thread or somewhere and I have those pics of OS maps too. Most of it is on my iPad of the actual Plains, but its wifi and not 4G that's even if there was signal anyway. However, I have the same App and maps on my phone and that should have gps too but of course I can't use that driving as I have no cradle for it. I can use the maps manuallly of course, but not really to follow as a sat nav would work. I thought the best plan would really be to follow the couple of lanes I detailed first, and then when it comes to the Plains follow BOAT's as mapped and signed but with no set route as such as it maybe subject to change. It won't be too difficult to manually map, but it would be most helpful if a lot of lanes are signed that they are BOAT's I assume this is highly likely with the Plains to ensure people use access as they should. GLASS guidelines I believe are around 5-6 vehicles per convoy, so we either split into two groups or possibly into four groups. We will likely also end up on different routes, especially with having to be careful of other trafic crossing routes etc etc. I'm interested to know what everyone's views are on this, especially group size. It's easiest to stick together but is a very big group, but the guidelines are quite small groups which is easier said than done. Either way, I'm looking forward to it and seems like the weather should be not too bad at all. If all 12 Defenders turn up 3 groups of 4 vehicles would be a nice size with a meet up at a prearranged time later in the day,as for ipad, wifi and 4G I have not got a clue but I can read a paper map ,I only have the landranger 184 ,if you let me know which other maps I need and will see if I can buy them in Chelmsford tomorrow.I am really looking forward to Saturday regardless of the weather .

Better split into groups of at most 7 vehicles, and leave approx 10 minutes between groups. I bought a couple of OS paper maps of the area I thought we are roughly heading into. I also have a handheld CB, but not sure how good the signal will be inside my Landy with the short aerial.
Im sure we all will be ok. Looking forward to it. Update: I have OS Explorer Maps (1:25,000) numbers 130 and 157. Hopefully these will cover the area we are going. Last edited by DAZ110 on 5th Oct 2017 9:07pm. Edited 2 times in total |

Really disappointed having to cry off the event folks. No vehicle! My Defender has been away what seems like forever having Dinitrol treatment carried out - since 11 Sept in fact! Wont rant on about it here. Already done that on Grumpy Git thread! Sending my best wishes for a great day. Hope to meet and join you if the event repeats next year.

Rockster - Ah what a pity. There will be photos and another at some point I hope in the not too distant future.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________ The OS maps I'm using are these for Apple users: The MapFinder by Ordnance Survey Limited https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/the-mapfinder/id577097874?mt=8 The paper map, I would imagine is covered by the following: https://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/shop/land...plain.html No Guts, No Glory.

Sorry - having to bail out on this one. It's a shame as I've been looking forward to it but family issues arise...
There'll be another, hope you all have fun though! |

I'll be bringing two spare wheel covers also if anyone wants one.
We will muddle though as to who leads, take it in turns maybe. Weather is looking pretty good too, I was wondering if it would be very very wet but luckily that isn't an issue. Should be just right I think. No Guts, No Glory.

Doesn't seem to be letting me grade up to the confirm list ( struggle with fat finger syndrome),
I am coming, so see you all at the car park tomorrow . Nick. |
