I have done the lanes on the Plains around Stonehenge and Imber a few months ago. Was great, just have to watch out for tanks regularly crossing the road. To be repeated, but not sure yet when we can.
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Perhaps there can be another re-run in the new year also, so that those that couldn't make it in Oct can then instead. Thumbs Up
Just maybe not when it's around 4 degrees outside standing around. Laughing

I have so far with a little bit of time tonight found some further information out regarding Barbury Castle, nr Wroughton. Wilts. (Excellent suggestion by Arran.)
Free parking, looks large and many lanes local. There appears to be Toilets there also. Laughing

The postcode for those of you who will be using Sat Nav to get there as I will also is:
SN4 0QH

I agree, that the tanks and junctions etc must be kept a close eye on as well as flagged areas.
Some of the junctions can sometimes cross fast roads also.

I've taken some Google Street View Screenshots for reference. Thumbs Up

Car park entrance:

Aerial view of the area, as you can see it's quite large and some good views:

Areas within the 'meet' area:

And scenery:

Myself and Arran will look into planning a route from here in due course shortly, the meeting area is a good start and is set in stone so to speak.
If anyone would prefer not to do any lanes for what ever reason can just attend the meet only if they wished.

To be updated shortly with further details. Thumbs Up $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Sorry, I have a previous commitment to go and 4x4 with a friend in the forest at Cannock, on the same date. I have taken my name off the list.

I can't make it but a couple of things to think about.

90% of the plain is non damaging but can get very muddy so make sure somebody has recovery equipment. I have had to recover a vehicle a couple of times in 5 years from deep mud.

Don't travel in one large convoy. Split the group into several smaller groups and leave 10 minutes or so between groups.
This should hopefully keep everybody moving and will also not draw the attention of the wardens and bobble hat brigade !

Well said Bob, I do have ropes etc and front and rear recovery points as do many others I would imagine.
Might be a good opportunity for everybody to bring their equipment if they so wish.
Hopefully avoid anything too over the top, I certainly don't want to be wading or anything like that too extreme.

I agree, it can get quite muddy. Hopefully it won't be too wet. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

As you come out of Barbury carpark, take an immediate right and there's a good byway, called 4 mile clump, which take you down to either the "hackpen hill" to Marlborough road (from then on tarmac to Marlborough) or you can turn left after the clump and head to Ogbourne Maizey and from then on a plethora of byways out towards Burbage and onto the edge of the 'plain.

Thank-you Jim, very helpful indeed. Thumbs Up

That sounds like a good route, I wanted to find a few en-route toward the plain in it's self.
Seems a shame to just drive past them on tarmac.

I do have an OS mapping App with purchased map tiles which should be very useful to plan a trail in advance.

Does anyone remember where that lane was that some idiots left some spikes in puddles? Last year I think.
If anyone remembers where that was those may be best avoided I think.

Hopefully there won't be an bobble hat brigade about or too many anyway. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R
