Three weeks in and apparently my car is "on the ramp". They tried to blag me that a tech had been on it all day and still didn't have the head off. Apparently he is a master technician. Master at avoiding work. A full day and head is not off.
When I mention the symptoms to a farmer mate of mine he muttered "injector seals" Funnily enough the service receptionist girl muttered something similar yesterday. Let's we what next week brings |

Update
We have had problems with the timing sir and we are reprogramming it now. ????? I said don't lie and there was complete silence for an awkward moment. Five minutes on hold and a "miscommunication" was admitted and apologised for. I'm not sure they can actually fix it due to lack of skill, knowledge or willingness. They have had the car for 23 days a total of 16 working days and they still don't know exactly what was wrong |

One offered on the day of breakdown. 100 miles away at Manchester airport
Turned it down. I've been offered another and said I'd have it if it goes on any longer than next Friday. ( that will be a month off the road) I have a couple of other cars I can use so the hassle of getting one was not worth it. |

4 weeks today
Found out yesterday that it's a problem with the head. They said it's out by '400' yes 400 thou. I nearly choked. That's bigger than 10mm I suspect that not 100% correct but it will now be sorted. The saga continues I suspect if I had taken the hire car on day one and was costing extended warranty lots of money I would be back in my car again. |

Exactly 31 days since I broke down I received confirmation that it was a head problem and was covered under extended warranty. Funny that I pushed for and picked up a hire car on Sunday via warranty and it then took two days to get squared away. I don't expect to get the car back until next week.

Lots of stuff to move from work including logs for the burner. Warehouse lights etc
Having a disco sport could be a costly exercise for me as Mrs loves it. The JCW mini she has is an amazing car but having relied on it for a few weeks it has become apparent to me that all her complaints about it being too small are valid. There will be another landrover on the drive alongside the defender at some point. |

35 days tomorrow since breaking down
Al parts have been ordered but one is "on back order" and may not be available until the middle of next week. I think that it's the cylinder head but service receptionist is in her own words "not very technical" Having been on the tour of Halwood operations and watching the evoque and disco sport be made from sheet steel to finished vehicle I find the time scales involved in fixing my car amazing. I will name and shame when this is all sorted. I will also name and thank the people and services that have helped and been easy to use. |

Another week and no progress. 42 days so far
"We are waiting for the cylinder head sir" I did however receive a call from lr customer services as I had called them in week one because I couldn't get through to the dealership. Glen is now overseeing the case and will keep in touch with me. I'll use and abuse the hire car. I have to leave it in a hotel car park in Wakefield for a week next week so I'm happier than leaving the defender there. I'm finding putting miles on somebody else's car somehow a reliever of the stresses caused by the breakdown and subsequent issues |

They don't have the right tool.. Theres a surprise "We have ordered it off eBay sir because it's a ford engine and not a jlr one".😮😮😮 The tool will be here Monday. That will be 50. Yes 50 days. Then they will have to reassemble it. So to sum up so far They couldn't diagnose it They couldn't get the parts They haven't got the right tools Doesn't sound very good really when broken down to its simplest form |

68 days and counting
Yesterday I got a call from lrcrc stating that they had spoken to the dealership and they said they were waiting for a fuel pump to be authorised. I was stood outside trinity college in Dublin doing my nut down the phone. So this morning after a flight home I jumped in the car and headed to the dealership. The tech doing the job went through everything with me in front of the car and I have to say I'm happier. He is making a job of it. Part of the delay is he is refusing to put any old parts back. All fixings are new, all seals, all gaskets, timing chain tensioner crank pulley, seal and chain cover etc etc etc parts bill is huge so far Fuel pump was because the bolt in the centre of the pulley broke. He will be doing two oil changes before I get it back as the new head has new surfaces for the cams to be running on. If all communication had been as clear as the tech there would have been no issues. I anticipate Monday or Tuesday of next week. |
