Hi Folks. I have just up-sized my tyres to 285/75/16 and now my Hi-lift jack no longer fits on the rear wheel carrier.
See here: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic57119.html Where does everyone else fit theirs? I am tempted to mount on to the Safety Devices roof rack out of the way. Has anyone done this and what did you use? Actually a blessing in disguise as the one thing that annoyed me about the jack being on the carrier was that it effectively blocks the rear fog light. |

If you've got a rack then on the side is a common location as it's out of the way but easily accessible. Years ago, when I used to have more frequent use for one, I had it mounted on the side of a Safety Devices rack on a Discovery. I think I made the hardware to mount it and fixed that to the rack with some large, rubber sleeved P clips. Darren

Hi LRA. Thanks, this is the way I am thinking at the moment. A quick search shows a few options for hardware from OZ and the US but not much available from the UK.

Hilift cage mounts. I currently keep mine in the loadspace of my DCPU, on my 90 it was mounted on the rear of the bulkhead. |

Super suggestions guys. i have done a bit of looking around and think I may be missing a trick. There is no off the shelf mount that is designed for the SD roof rack, but I noticed that there are four great mounting plates on the luggage rail which could easily have a mount made up for. The alternative is constructing a frame to adapt the Safari Equip swing away carrier. Perhaps to store it above the spare wheel. Maybe that is an option...
I am afraid I do not have anywhere inside to mount a jack, it is mostly taken up by a dog crate and drawer system. Food for thought anyway. |

I carry mine wrapped in an old seat cover under the second row seats.
Clean, safe and out of the way. |

The mount I posted fits under 2nd row seats, and does not interfere with dog crate and drawers ( I have both too).

I store mine secured to the second row seat hinges along the second row heel panel. It is out of sight, handy, and doesn't affect rear legroom. The seats still tip with it there too.

I have two on my 90, my good one insode on my bulk head, and a old one on the back of the roof rack for show 2014 - current ..... 2003 defender td5 90 (my car)

I store mine in the garage because I've used it twice in the last 15 years for changing springs. It's hard to imagine a more useless heavy chunk of cast iron to carry around.
Now, I know, each to his own but really, what do you use them for ? I do know what they can be used for but to be honest they're pretty crap at most of those uses. Mo The Land Rover 90 - Many are called, few are chosen. 50 Shades of Pennine Grey |

Agree with Mo above, mine also lives in the garage. I've only used it out and about once, changing springs is it's only purpose now.
I did have it bolted across the rear of the bulkhead for a short period, when I was young and naive and thought it was necessary to cart all kinds of junk around with you. I now realise it's just not required. |

I could have done with one this week to help get a Sprinter 4x4 out of some mud. Driver had buried it up to the the diffs. Hi Lift would have lifted wheel out of the hole and allow it be filled to get the diffs off the ground. The film on YouTube about the "Responder" Hi Lift is worth watching too.
