That's a relief, I was worried it was going to be some small part that needed replacing, thanks

I had exactly the same on mine a few months ago, which was cured by a new ignition barrel. The original had just worn out.
I picked up one slightly cheaper from eBay with free delivery. Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? You're braver than I thought!" - Princess Leia |

Its probably the switch on the end of the barrel. Pop the steering column surround and binnacle off and you can access the switch. Have a feel and see if its loose. If it is, you just have to unscrew the ignition barrel and remove the switch unit. New ones are about £15.
If your ignition barrel has never been off, they have security bolts so your need to use a bolt/screw remover. Just replace these with regular bolts to save future faffing. Tim |

That sounds like an interesting little project as i'd prefer to repair it right than unbolt it and throw it away.
Any idea which part number I need for the switch? 1993 200 Tdi 90 CSW 1956 Series 1 Hard-top 1958 Series 1 Soft-top |

Try LR039638
Make sure its the right one for your 200 first though. Should be. Tim |

I think the 200 Tdi has a glow plug timer, rather than the key held against a spring like the 2.5 NA and TD?
In which case you need the smaller switch: PRC8230 -> YXB500170 -> LR035359 -> LR039638 The fatter switch to handle the glow plug current on the 2.5 NA and TD is PRC2735. The key barrels/column locks are different for the different switches. ![]() ![]() |
