Hi Bruce, No, you can't wire the switch like that, for two reasons - 1: The Illumination and Tell-Tale are LEDs and will only work in one direction. 2: Pin-3 and Pin-4 are commoned. However... You can easily modify the switch's internals to make it switch as you want This is what the switch looks like inside (bad photo alert ) Here's a picture of the inside of the switch, which I've annotated with the terminal numbers and to show how the contacts connect accross pins 1 & 4 when in the ON position - Click image to enlarge This is a close-up of the switch's circuit - Click image to enlarge It's easy to convert this switch to a conventional live switching ON/OFF switch by cutting the brass track between the two holes, as marked in red in this next picture (I've use a Needle File to do this on the ones that I've modified) - Click image to enlarge By cutting the track at this point, you separate pins 3 & 4 The revised circuit is now - Pin 1 - Incoming Live from Main Beam/Dipped Beam/Side Lights (as applicable) Pin 2 - Live from Dash Illumination Pin 3 - Switch Earth (for indicator LEDs) Pin 4 - Switched Live output to Terminal 86 of your Relay Pin 5 - Live in from Pin 4 (for Orange 'tell-tale' LED) You could link pins 4 & 5 inside the switch while you had it apart, by soldering a link across the brass tracks but I would just crimp an extra short length of cable into Pin 4 and loop it round into Pin 5 on the connector. You will still need to use an accessory relay with a switch modified in this way but, at least it will be wired in a conventional manner. Paul. Hi Can anyone help with the converted switch method above? I have fitted a wiring loom which has a relay etc to power 4 led spots however this came with a fitted 3 pin toggle switch. I have managed to convert the switch as described above which does function correctly to turn the spots on and off. I can't however get the orange tell tale light to function when the lights and switched on. From the 3 pin toggle I have a spare wire which I believe is the switch earth. This runs into 85 on the relay. Not sure which pin this if any it should go into on the converted YUF500150LNF? I have tried linking pin 4 and 5 wire a short bit of wire however still can't get the led to glow which the lights are on. Any ideas anyone? is it possible to put the wiring diagram images for the YUF500150LNF again but with another program because photobucket doesn't show them anymore?

This is a great how to thank you I'll be checking on it again when I do mine. One question. Am I correct in saying that the feed for the spots came out of the rear. How did you get it to the spots at the front? Did you cable tie it to your rack |
