Farmerben, for Gods sake don't look at the Councils map of proposed roadworks for the next 3 months! Closures on Belmont Road, Three Elms, Whitecross, all this on top of the "Inner Ring Road" and the farcical work being done on the Ledbury Road. Don't get me started on all the smaller lanes that are scheduled for work in the next few months as well.
Did I hear that someone may have mentioned the need for a by-pass! Sorry to moaning about a non Defender subject but it's getting to a point where we need to drive a Defender to actually get anywhere |

Driving stuff:
Corners. I'm beginning to hate corners, mainly because tourists in the Alps seem incapable of driving round them without either cutting the corner and risking a head-on collision, or by following the actual route but at half the speed limit. What do they think is going to happen? Drivers overtaking artics. Why, oh why, do some drivers slow down and creep past 40-tonners dribbling alongside them and thereby actually being at greater risk, rather than getting past the danger with purpose and getting on with their journey? Driving at varying speeds. Why are there so many drivers incapable of driving at a steady speed along A-roads and dual-carriageways? How hard is it to keep your foot in one position on the accelerator pedal? Accelerating whilst being overtaken. Amazed by how many drivers seem to accelerate when being overtaken. For why, for why? Not changing lanes when a car merges on to a dual carriageway or motorway. Perhaps a problem more in evidence in France, but there seems to be an ever greater reluctance for drivers to move over as you try and join a fast, multiple lane carriageway. Frankly to the point of emergency braking at the at the end of the merging lane. Campers or holiday makers not pulling over. I don't expect everyone to driver like Lewis Hamilton, I'm happy for holiday makers to enjoy driving in these beautiful Alps, but if they want to do so, can they not keep an eye on their rear view or wing mirrors and just occasionally pull over if there is a queue of locals behind them. Not everyone is on holiday and has the luxury to just drift along... All these are examples of driving getting steadily worse. I think tourist areas will suffer the brunt of it, with mixed nations, mixed standards, drivers following directions or in holiday mode, but nevertheless..... Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

Try driving in Botswana... https://www.facebook.com/brendon.claassen....580698599/ (A thousand pardons for the facebook link) Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. I find that the locals in the Alps are the danger. They are driving those mountain roads like on a race track, cut corners themselves, and turn into "angry high beam flashing irritated so called superior I know it all" idiots when drivers like myself will drive those hairpin winding roads with often poor visibility in a more careful way and staying in our lanes. But, don't worry, a lot of locals in the mountains with their attitudes toward tourists are just discouraging us tourists to even bother coming up there, so we stay down here. Fondue and raclette by the lake is excellent, and probably not more expensive than in the Haute Savoie mountains. Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

Bushpig, my wife grew up in Botswana (actually in Gabs) and I showed her the video. She showed no surprise!
I personally enjoyed the cars following behind - overtaking blindly and just relying on the coach being large and invisible |

Very fat people on aeroplanes 🛫
Nobody with an arse wider than the aisle should be allowed onboard. I'm meaning the aisle between the seat rows here, but a woman on the PSA to LBA this morning had a backside that could have blocked the one between the pews of York Minster. |

11th September I took my Defender to a well known Defender/4x4 specialist. An appointment had been made for Dinitrol treatment and for them to advise on feasibility of them undertaking some further work. I’d been told they’d probably need it for the best part of the week. No problem says I.
However, it’s now 5th October and I’m still waiting. Why so long you may wonder? The member of the team who was going to do the work went off sick with mumps, they say. Well it happens I suppose. Then, they ran out of one the Dinitrol products. Sounds a bit slack not having the stock when a job has been booked in earlier. What about the further work they were going to advise me on? “Oh, we haven’t been able to look at that because your Defender has been up on the ramps.” Really? I can only think the ramps are unable to lower unless the Dinitrol at the premises are at a sufficient level! Moving on, Dinitrol supplies replenished but more delay due to difficulty encountered by specialists trying to remove my Defender bonnet without the key to the security device. The key is on the key ring with the rest of the Defender keys. Apparently they couldn’t find it. 7 keys on the ring if I include the remote fob. Not too many hiding places there then! Yesterday I was informed the Dinitrol treatment was expected to be finished today and they’d also be able to look at and advise about extra work same day. I asked if they would kindly give me a call today to confirm one way or the other. No call! Probably brought much of this on myself as I’ve been far too accommodating. Not been uppity or expressed annoyance with them. Being too nice doesn’t seem to get me anywhere. Thank goodness for the Grumpy Old Git thread! Feel better already! Although I’ve now no Defender to join the lads and lasses this weekend at the Salisbury meeting |

I think that Audi drivers have taken over the mantra or meaning of BMW.
Have had a couple of near misses with idiots driving Audi cars recently. Last night speeding Audi driver exceeding 30mph overtaking two cars travelling within speed limit going the wrong way around a keep left traffic island in middle of the road heading directly towards me driving our Defender. The only vehicles I can see having a legitamite reason for going the wrong way around a traffic island is an emergency vehicle with blues and twos on. Brendan |
