2005 Defender 110 2.5 TD SW Zambezi Silver

Problem Fitting New Courtesy Light Switch!

I needed to replace the courtesy light switch on the rear (load area) door of my 2005 Defender 110 Td5 Station Wagon but the wiring had disappeared into the bodywork. I removed my rear speaker and fished around but I can't find a wire with a female spade connector which is what I need to connect to my new switch which is a PRC8548. The wire appears to be on a very short lead and seems to be a large male connector protruding from a plastic block. It's very difficult to access or see what I'm doing!

I'm only guessing here but is the large male connector just the end of the old switch your replacing still plugged into the wire you need? If so pull it out and fit the new switch. Ray

Okay not sure if you've sorted this yet but unscrew the rusty screw [RED] then wiggle the plunger switch out of the hole...and the wire should be attached (its purple). If it is not pull the panel off [Yellow arrowed]. It is just attched with spring clips, just carefully pull it back (as in away from the window). Find the wire run it through the hole attach it to the new plunger switch, reinsert it back through the hole and clean the rust off the crew before putting that back together. Then reassemble everything.

Thank you. I got the panel off easily as you suggested and the problem was very apparent! The old switch had broken off inside the female spade connector. Now all I need to do is to attach a new wire (to make it longer - it was far too short) then attach a new female spade connector and Bob's your uncle! P.S. what strength wire should I use? Photos of my broken wiring and new switch attached.

That picture is indicative of water ingress and I'd recommend first trace the leak, and seal it up. Then you should add some dielectric grease to the contact inside the spade connector to stop that corrosion from happening again (should it leak some more).
