United Kingdom 2012 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 SW Indus Silver
Bfg mud terrains...
Well, Morocco booked up for the end of October & just getting the truck ready ( servicing pads ect) my bog standard Goodyear MTRs 235/85r16s are down to 7mm & by the time we go / get there they will be 5mm ish so time for a new set of shoes for the old girl. I'm thinking BFGs Mud terrains 235/85r16s ( have a spare with a nearly new one on so only have to get 4) The defender spends most of the time traveling off road, good choice given what we use it for or are there better options?

Go for 255/85/R16 KM2. Only slight steering lock stops adjustment needed.
No other issues than that, nicer than the 235's. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Thanks for the reply, why 255 rather than 235? Stops aren't a problem as we have 30mm spacers on.

Well, apart from big trips ( Portugal/Morocco ect) most off road we do here & it's mainly mud thanks to our great weather. Do you still think all terrains?

Fair enough - the pistes in Morocco are firm enough for any tire. Tyre pressures are perhaps a more significant factor. JB

We are leaving Birmingham on the 27th of October so the weather in Morocco might be on the change? Have you done Morocco much? Any advice gladly received!

Had a fab time there. I took ATs - but Mts are fine as long as you air down enough.

It's a mix of crappy tarmac, rocky pistes and sand. Side walls and construction are perhaps more important than tread?

Personally I'd take ATs. JB

255 will,have a wider footprint on soft ground and won't dig in as much. Plus a better ride. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

I'd leave your 5mm GY MTRs on.
When you see the regular cars, vans and motorhomes zooming around you realise that you can overthink Morocco! JB

I would tend to agree about using 255/85/16 if you can get them.

The extra height under the diffs is appreciable when off road- I also appreciate the slight increase in gearing......

Yes, i don't see any problem with that.
You don't really even need any spacers, if you adjust the lock stops as I don't run spacers.

There should be no rubbing, I'm running standard springs with spring isolators.
