Weekend in the Lake District.
Me and the missus decided to get the Caravan out off storage and go away for a few days as we are both starting to suffer from a bit of cabin fever. Decided on the Lake District as the weather forecasts where saying it was to be sunny and dry, and they where right Thud Stayed at Troutbeck Head Caravan Club site and went to play on some easy lanes.

Great pics! Can't beat some time away in the Lakes, especially in a Land Rover! Thanks for posting them. I especially like the pic that looks as though you are chasing some ramblers (Disclaimer: I am a rambler from time to time - this isn't a dig at ramblers, just the amusing angle of the picture).

Cheers Karl, we did enjoy it. The lanes where very tame in comparison to what some of the guys on here tackle, but none the less we had a great time, and I apparently earned quite a few badly needed Brownie points off the missus. Whistle

We have used it a couple of times and can't fault the site or the wardens, very helpful and polite. As you say it is in a good position in that it's not too close to Windemere (the other Troutbeck is). Couple of lanes nearby and Penrith is close for Groceries and shopping. There are some good roads with outstanding views off the beaten track which are worth doing. Thumbs Up

The 7th picture down was taken at Hausewell brow, and the hole is still there and it's deeper than it looks in the picture. There are signs of the track being replaced with stone a couple of hundred yards before the hole(On the dip down and up. Travelling East to West), I guess they haven't got that far yet or they have done all that they are going to do? I didn't go any further as I didn't want to cause any more damage to the track, bikes and quads have been on the bank to the side to miss the hole and have started to dig that up. Had a look at a couple you sent me Mike Bow down but didn't try them as they where being used at the time, very busy lanes! Would love to have gotten a permit to do Gatesgarth pass but unfortunately I'm 10 inches over the max length allowed Big Cry

I was going to offer the one at the back a lift as she didn't look to amused at having to walk/ play catch up to her companions Whistle
And yes , they did move over on the steep descent just ahead of them ( chickens). Then again wouldn't you if a Landy was bearing down on you on a narrow road Very Happy

The repairs further down the lane were done before the hole really appeared. A friend and I have been putting stone into the bottom of the hole every time we drive it - it got so that the bottom became firm and you could crawl through it ok.

However last time I went people had been trying a heavy right foot to get through and spun out a lot of the stone we'd put in Rolling Eyes .... some other people had also been trying to drive round it and had broken down the drainage channels at the side of the track as a result...... which flooded the hole and made it worse! Quite a bit of spade work reinstated them and hopefully made the 'drive around' look less like a viable option.

The problem with the hole is that CCC don't have money to fix it, but they also don't really work with volunteers .... so the best option would seem to be a stealthy repair party. There is after all an old quarry just down the road with more stone that you could ever need...
