With stolen Defender or Defender parts going abroad there is little the UK Defender population can do.
However with stolen Defender parts in the UK the UK Defender population can control the thieving scum bags. The thieving scumbags would NOT steal Defenders or strip parts of Defenders if there were not willing purchasers of the stolen parts. Have seen people advertise things on various auction sites 1) My friend has sold his Defender so I am selling his Puma bonnet for him!! So he sold a vehicle without the bonnet?? 2) Brand new bonnet never been fitted. Only slight problem you buy a brand new bonnet from JLR it comes in primer coat not that nice gloss paint! 3) Have 50 Defender key fobs for sell, advert from a private seller! 4) Have various JLR decals for sell. Only available from JLR against a valid VIN. If people were not willing to buy cheap stolen parts which were obviously suspect then there would be no incentative for the thieving scumbags. Brendan |

I wonder if your galvanised chassis was a factor in selecting it to steal. Do such chassis have an imprinted number? If not, can the identity be exchanged more easily with a written-off, white 110?
This thread has reminded me about that smart water kit I've had sitting in the garage for the past four months... Current Steeds: 2015 110 UW in Grasmere Green 2003 BMW F650 the Hack 2000 Elise 1992 Ducati 888 (no longer in bits, yahoo) 1990 TDR 250 (in bits again) 1988 TDR 250 (no longer in bits) and for sale |

It's a possibility that's what they were after - my 'Richards' galv chassis was unnumbered - well not that i could see anyway.
Maybe they could start stamping a big serial number on them? Also bits like new full headlining, new BFGs etc. were easily swappable. Like has been said before, we all need to be cautious when buying used parts from eBay etc. A bargain to someone could well be part of someone else's missing pride and joy. Report anything suspicious. Remove their market and it should help. No doubt they're reading this peeing themselves laughing but you gotta do something. I just etched the windows on the replacement with the ISR kit btw and it's brilliant - really easy to use and looks like a pro finish. Still need to do the metal and plastic parts over the next day or so - hopefully it should help deter some thieves. Cheers, Andy... Edinburgh, Scotland http://24heuer.com |

I remember watching a car theft doc on tv, They had professional car thieves on the program showing you the tricks of the trade, I was shocked on things some of the heavy ones have! They have little central locking fob jammers etc, One even had a laptop with some sort of sensor to pick up where the tracker is located on the car, and disabled it with in seconds!
Everyone of the cars that were featured were stolen bar the range rover they used to demo the tracker been disabled and a ford focus that was in a breakers yard. The bmws, mercs, jags etc were all stolen to order and ready to go out the country. They even interviewed the ring leader who was behind the cars going out of the country too. So really sweet all is safe! I recon that the OPs defender that's been stolen is in storage somewhere until its shipped out the country. Interesting about the key-fob jammers....i didn't know they existed tbh.
Maybe paranoia but I've noticed something strange with the replacement Defender in 1 particular car park I use a couple of evenings a week. A few times now it's taken me a few attempts to set the alarm with the remote key-fob. At first I thought it was just the battery in the fob expiring but by the time I'm home it always works first time again... Also works no problem everywhere else. It's now happened enough times to isolate it to something to do with that car park. Maybe I'll just take the normal car there in future. Amazing the nervousness that develops after losing 1 Defender! Had similar problems with the D4 key fob operating at a particular Homebase car park, it never would operate properly at that car park. I put it down to their own security system interfering or blocking the signal.
