My v8 caddy came with a heavy confortable flywheel which i swapped it for a single simple mass flywheel. It pumps out more power than my defender will ever and no issues.
The idea of dual mass fw is sound, but the added weight is useless. We are not drivin lil ms daisy, so "comfort" really isnt nexessary. If you look at our setup we have 5 cyl that means in every two revolutions there is an ignition cycle every 144 degrees vs every 180 like in 4 cyl engines. The gear chatter can be solved with some thicker synthtic oil. I will be doin a rebuild on the gearbox, i feel there could be slight misalignment on the gears. |

My lil engine is almost finished in the assembly shop.
Missing some bolts, studs, oil cooler o-rings and others... Normally you have extra, but my builds are not like that... After which it will go off to paint, and get a nice black coat of paint. I placed a rather high $ order with LR Parts. But i did save on shipping, and on the inner roll cage like i have been looking for. Sometimes its pays to shop around. The international dealer was overcharging me by 200 euro on the item and more on on shipping. I also scored a 33mm front anti roll bar. Just need to find a 28mm rear and all the needed parts to get me rolling forward. Its going to be on of my best rebuilds. If only i could find a way to get the VATs back on all my ebay purchases, i would have more money for my habit... After this build i am planning to bring back to life an old two door Yukon. But i cant decide if i want to run a 6.2ltr with LS7 heads or 6.6ltr with truck intake... Either way it will be a fast truck, and it will stand out from everything that came before it... |

Sounds like quite a project! Just want to see some photos!
Interesting to see have a bigger ARB on the front to the rear? I always thought the heavier roll bar was better on the back? On all my rides, the front is always bigger than on the rear.
My Tahoe, CTS-V, and Yukon all had either 1/4" or 3/8" larger fronts than rear. But those are petrol engines, in "heavy" chassis configurations. To many variables So, i googled a little, and found there is a way to control a VNT turbo on the TD5. there are two types, Vacuum controlled and Electronic. Am in talks with tuning Diesels to see if i may get the turbo GTB2260V with electronic actuator to work on my ride. This aught to give me the bottom end kick, and top end power without over spooling. Should have done this before tossin money to Alive for their hybrid turbo. Pictures will flow in next wheel, with before and after pix of each mod... |

You know idle hands lead to devilish ideas.
I noticed the inlet to the intake manifold is 2.5", but all my turbo hoses and ic are 2"... Bigger tubes less boost more flow, small tubes more boost less flow... I feel if i upgrade the tubing after the turbo to 2.5" i should surely gain some more power. Especially after my airbox mod... Will keep you all posted to my progress. |

I am waiting on a couple sea shipments from LRparts.
Ordered the Safety device inner roll bar, full set of doors, and seals for the rest of the cab. My inner doors are shot, my cross member is shot, and i just discovered rust in my bulkhead right under the heater box. Happy days So my first step is to add Aircon, as its 49+ on any given hellious day here. I tore the dash apart, and we are going to yank the heater/blower box off I am lookin to redesign the HVAC box using Disco 2 heater and evap parts. The main challenge is gettin the air to blow onto our face and not the windshield nor foot wells. I ordered a Disco 1 ac control unit, with AC button. The guy didnt give me a break on the price even though Best offer was available. The idea is simple, the cutrrent setup uses cables and what nots, i will mimic that with the addition of on/off button for the ac that also is connected to the heater solenoid. This way when the AC is on the heater is off. and if i turn off the ac i am able to dial in the amount of heat i want. Challenge is getting the defrost vents to close givin me facial air. Did i mention i have rust? What am i to expect, she is 17yrs old from germany |

We have swamp coolers, so the dry heat is broken slightly.
Lately its been hotter, i swear its hitting 55+ for when i get home at 5pm after 120kph speeds my car temp is reading 50c. ok, i swear i searched but where may i find a complete Stainless Bolt kit for my Defender? I found bolts from UK suppliers on Ebay, but they are partial kits, i want the whole car so i dont suffer from stuck bolts. Yanked the rear tub off for repair, and will start on the cab, but i have to admit, its a PITA... |

Looking good so far!
Just wondering if the porting is worth doing? What kind of gains are you expecting? |
