No Headlights (except flash full beam)

Some help please. Recently when turning ignition to start the engine I've experienced clicking which I believe to be a bad earth or solenoid or are

starter motor.
Happen for a few days but would eventually start after two or three turns and clicks turns and clicks turn and fires. Tonight I came back to the vehicle started first time as it has done in the last couple of days but no headlights, on low beam or high beam, just one left-hand side light. Full beam on flash worker so I taped it on full beam (flash) to get home. Luckily the headlights are so poor I didn't get flashed by a single driver coming in the opposite direction or even noticed but the police car pulling out of the junction in front of me

I checked fuses 22 and 23 on the fuse box in the centre of the front, in front of the gearstick but both were fine. Any other thoughts as to what this might be? Many thanks.

It'll be the innnards of the switch that have melted, meaning that some of the contacts no longer line up. It is, unfortunately, a common problem and has been covered on here many times. Upgrading the loom to use relays is a good move, either DIY or fitting an off-the-shelf kit. Darren

Am using the defender 7 days a week for the foreseeable working away so have gone for a new switch only right now
