United Kingdom 2006 Defender 110 Td5 USW Alpine White
Stolen Overnight-A1HTY
Stolen overnight from Arrow,Alcester B49:-

A1HTY-white Defender 110 TD5 Utility Station Wagon

It had:-

1)Factory alarm/immobiliser
2)Wired 'kill switch' to starter motor
3)X Eng pedal lock (fitted by dealer)
4)Steering lock (through steering wheel)
5)Locking wheel nuts
6)Skytag live track tracker

The vehicle was parked off road in a private yard with a cattle grid entrance. It was wedged in with a 5 series BMW that was alarmed and locked. They dismantled a wood fence to remove and forced open a gate to avoid using the cattle grid. I suspect that the vehicle was lifted. Skytag shows that the vehicle was taken to a remote field approx 4 miles away and for 2 hrs remained static. Battery power to the Skytag was stopped after 2hrs 6mins.

Vehicle was standard. It was in good condition with 107000 miles-it was my retirement present to myself. It was quite distinctive though as it was a factory built USW (not common with a TD5).First reg 2006 and ex EOD vehicle.

I have photos if I can work out how to put them on.

I don't expect to see it again but I have posted so that others can think again re security.

Sorry to hear of the theft, sounds like it was well planned... Big Cry

Fingers crossed you see it back. I wonder what they were doing with it in a field for 2 hours? If you have the location of the field might be worth taking a walk to see if you can see any trace of it/tyre tracks etc? BORG - Bucks & Oxon 4x4 Response Group

Sorry to hear of this. Sad When you say ‘Battery power to the Skytag was stopped after 2hrs 6mins‘, does this means they’d found the Skytag and destroyed/ damaged it rather than just disconnecting the vehicle battery?

Only ask because I thought Skytag had a battery built into it.

Sorry to hear about this, don't suppose you could have had more protection but if they want it they will have it! In the 2 hours in the field they could have stripped the parts they were after. Sad Jeff

hi hty,

sorry to hear about the theft.

unfortunately I've also heard of a td5 90 being stolen near Evesham and a 90 stolen from snowshill, both in the last 6 weeks.

I take it that the police showed their usual amount of interest and just gave you a crime number? Banging Head 1983 Series 3 Pick up in Marine Blue

Sorry to hear about the theft. I can't believe the amount of effort they have gone to in order to steal that vehicle. It is all very close to home Crying or Very sad

Really sorry!!

Guys, you need to put end end to this! This amount of criminal energy is amazing.
I do love your country but are postponing our next UK holiday since we've got our beloved Defender. I'm almost the only one around here fitting layer after layer of security measures and my friends think I'm overreacting (well, they think I went bonkers, but are too polite to say so Smile ) until I show them pictures of stripped police Defenders...)
I ponder whether I should write a letter to a certain rather influential person to make this a matter of national priority ("Madam, ...) Wink Cool

Sorry to hear that this happened.

Not sure I have much respect for that Skytag tracker system there in the UK that is mentioned so often on here.
If the vehicle moves, the owner should immediately be informed by Skytag, if owner confirms something is out of normal, Skytag should promptly contact police, and then if the vehicle is left static for over two hours in a location known to Skytag, why is police not able to locate it? Seems the whole system could work better than it does.

Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Yes I am gutted tbh. It was like a family member.

The Skytag had an internal battery which still sends out a signal after it is disconnected from vehicle wiring. It was the disconnected Skytag that we went out to this morning-the vehicle had gone.

I anticipate the two hour delay was to 'stand off' waiting for a response to the tracker and to remove the pedal lock.

There were tyre tracks but they were indistinct and damaged by rain. You also have to have a suspect vehicle before you can cross match tyre tracks (and you have to find it quickly before the wear pattern changes).

I have mulled over this all morning. There was little or nothing more that I could have done to stop this.I don't have parking near to my house-its a listed building.

Will I get another? A bit early to say tbh. I loved it-best vehicle I have ever had and all I ever wanted. But I can't keep another one safe where I live now. And its unrealistic to expect my better half and family to move because I want another Defender.

And just one other response before I go to work-

The Police were good. They attended and looked around and tried to use NPAS (helicopter to track). The Police get poor press-they do care and try. But society has changed quicker than they have.

That is good news about the police. There have been so many cases of their lack of interest, that in some areas it has become a sorry fact that they will not attend burglaries any more.
The theft of thousands of pounds should get the same level of attention whether it is cash or goods.

hty,

do you know a paramedic called Kate and husband Clive; as they were recently telling me of a special land rover with loads of security that was stolen near Redditch?

Sorry for the late reply but I have been working.

No I don't know Kate or Clive.

And just as a further re the Police-the late turn officers have been out with a dog tonight and recovered the SkyTag box from a ditch. Its on the way to the labs re DNA.

I couldn't have asked for anything more. They were fantastic.
