Ok.

Thanks guys. I will draw a line under this and thank you all for the responses, as always a range of experience and opinion.

Appreciate the input, back to Land Rovers. HR064 Hampshire and Berkshire 4x4 Response

The assertion that Rolex don't make plated watches is not correct. They used to make some gold plated models - certainly back in the '60's and '70's, although I think they originally marketed them as gold shelled or possibly gold wrapped.

As an example, there's an Oyster Perpetual Date Chronometer about 2/3rds down this page:

.....and it is an Oyster which was never made in plated gold. Rolex got into bother in the 70s for making gold and stainless mixed bracelets and they got over the frowned upon mixture by calling the bracelets "Rolesor".

Polite? Have not read much unpolite on this thread. There has been plenty of reason with this OP to call a spade a spade though. I actually think it is not very polite that the OP just deleted his OP with picture et al.

The Rolex in the OP picture is solid 18 carat gold.

Which he clearly stated was not the actual watch he was talking about.

Frankly, I'm not surprised he's deleted his post given comments describing his story as 'dodgy' and 'a joke', and basically insinuating that he's lying. Very poor show by the usual Defender2 standards, IMHO. Darren

Blimey guys, it seems a bit OTT everyone is getting hot under the collar over this, the OP explained the history behind the watch etc etc and it all seems to be getting a little bit over the top if he has made a slight error or omission in what has been stated by him, sometimes in life people get lucky perhaps OP has just got lucky when he brought it and since he owned it?

In all honesty Suli Suli, I'm surprised that Martin did not interfere earlier and did not tell the OP to stop trying to get advise on here about how to dispose of expensive jewellery at a profit which potentially has "a checkered past". Rolling Eyes
I cannot see how things like that are in line with forum values.

Blimey Eric, wind it in. I guess if you try really hard you can read negativity into anything, I suspect most hopefully won't see it that way..
