If that is the case I might sell it for scrap. I know the bracelet I bought is only plated though. HR064 Hampshire and Berkshire 4x4 Response

Just to clarify, if it did go to Rolex UK and it was a fake, they would have destroyed it; therefore, it is more than likely genuine. If you've fallen out of love with it and it doesn't owe you much, you could always consider doing what you said above and donating the proceeds to charity. Turn it into a positive. |

I think it is almost certain to have been lost/stolen at some point other wise there would be no need to remove the serial number, hence I no longer want it. You are right it is a shame it can't be reunited with whoever lost it but my thoughts are the same as yours in that it is a long time ago.
I like the fact Rolex care about their product as well and they were good to deal with. It owes me £162 for the bracelet ,£72.50 for the 1st service and £105 for a later service I'm not sure any watch dealer of repute would be interested in it unless they have a value as parts. Any suggestions welcome HR064 Hampshire and Berkshire 4x4 Response |

why not just sell it being honest about its history
I'm sure you will still get a good return and no different to selling a Q plate car in my opinion DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS, I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |

If you have good reason to believe that it is stolen, and believing this you sell it, you are committing a crime of some significance (handling stolen goods) and risk a criminal record.
I am led to believe, from a discussion I had some years ago with BTP on essentially the same subject, that about the only legal thing you can do is keep hold of it. |

If you bought the bracelet as a genuine Rolex bracelet it will have a serial number.
I am amazed you could have a bought an 18ct bracelet for the price you say. I priced up a replacement bracelet about 6 or 7 years ago for an 18ct Submariner & it was just short of £7k. So , if it is a genuine bracelet I would split it & sell that Next you could then be open & honest & sell the watch to a dealer who might break it for parts or weigh it in for the gold Guy May your life be like toilet paper ; long & useful. |

Dodgy all over. If you bought a real Rolex "for a few quid" you should have known something is wrong. Others said it already, but gold plated does not exist with Rolex, only solid 18C. Frankly, 162£ for a gold bracelet is nothing, probably fake, and your two maintenance jobs at 100£ or less each are way too cheap also for a real Rolex, but adding it all up it still remains a very minimal total investment that you made there, a good quality fake Chinese Rolex would cost probably more.
It would be criminal to sell that thing to an unknowing person without formally checking with Rolex what this is exactly. If it proves fake or stolen, admit that they confiscate it and eat your few 100£ loss, and get a clear conscience again. If however it is real and clear of any wrongdoing, you are lucky. Let me start by saying I'm not saying you've done anything wrong.....
However, none of this makes sense to me. The purchase price was too low The bracelet price is too low The servicing prices are too low It's been to an AD that did nothing about its missing numbers It's been to Rolex who identified the issues yet still sent it back Just doesn't add up to me..... |

Ok. So to set the scene. Before the internet and probably pre car boot sale people would gather in church halls, schools and other places and there would be 20 or 20 tables and it would be private individuals having a clear out and usually raising money for a charity or themselves. The tables would be piled high with mostly junk, cookware, clothes jewellery etc.
You wander around and haggle for other peoples tat and every now and then you think oh that looks like it is worth a punt. So I purchased a watch with smashed glass, gold coloured dial but a silver strap looking very sorry for itself. I thought it was a Rolex so then took it to Watches of Switzerland to be serviced, cleaned, new glass and I purchased , brand new a gold plated strap. I have receipts for services , the strap and yes the strap has a serial number. I have receipts for the services etc and Watches of Switzerland are not in any way disreputable. What they failed to do at that point was identify that the serial number was missing. Roll forward many years and the watch goes to Ernest Jones for a service and they send it to Rolex rather than service it in house, who obviously identify immediately that the serial number is missing. The watch is a genuine Rolex and because I could prove with receipts that I have had the watch for a fair amount of time and had services carried out and a receipt for the strap from a reputable source the watch was serviced and returned. So there you go I have got a Rolex on the cheap , purchased in good faith but it isn't the bargain I thought as it turns out to have a chequered past. HR064 Hampshire and Berkshire 4x4 Response |

In good faith you probably do not want to put the chequered past into someone else's innocent hands, no? He might not be so lucky as you the next time he hands it over to Rolex for a service.
Things don't click, there is no way that you have been able to buy a real Rolex gold strap for the kind of money you say you did. Rolex do not know gold plated, only solid, definitely so for the model you show there in the picture. Eric You never actually own a Defender. I agree with Blackwolf, you cannot do anything other than retain it now that you have been made aware of its past, I would advise to seek legal advice even about its retention by you. Don't make old people mad.
