Reverseing gear electrical pick up point in cab
I'm installing a reversing camera, to save time I went for a wireless one thinking it would save on wiring from back to front, but the wiring instructions still asks for a reversing gear electrical pick up point for the camera on my dash, any idea guys?

What about the reversing light, which comes on when you select rear gear? Cheers, Vincent

You will need to pick up the wire from the reverse light switch in the side of the main gearbox. You should be able to access this from the panel beneath the centre seat/cubby box.

There is no reverse light wire inside the cabin sadly.

I would run a cable from the reverse light into the dash, that or as above the gearbox but that may be tough to get to and make sure you do a good job of sealing it up as it is exposed!

You can pick it up at the bulkhead connector just below and behind the expansion tank, you just need to tap into the wire there and run a wire through the bulkhead grommet into the dash.

It's normally the orange multi-plug and you're looking for a green/brown wire.

On my setup, the loom that came with the camera had an extra wire. One at the camera end and one at the screen end. I literally joined that extra wire to the screen positive at that end and then the opposite extra wire to the camera live - which then joins the reverse light live. So, when you select reverse, the power goes to the reverse light and then camera and back through the loom to power the screen. I have only needed a ground at the screen end.

Not sure that makes sense without a picture

EDIT: I just pinched Butcher Boys picture from his thread here which covers similar; http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54967.html

So on the picture above, I connected the extra wire A to the screen positive. Extra wire B was to the camera positive and then piggybacked the reverse light positive.

I believe the OP bought the wireless system through to prevent the need to run any wires.

Sorry guys for the late reply, I'm still working on this as I'm finding a good position for the camera almost impossible to achieve, I'll continue tomorrow and let you know the outcome, thanks for all your replys.

Keith, two best positions for a camera are (one) under the licence plate lamp and (two) in the rear cross member area for the trailer wiring plug (assuming no plug there). I have installed in both these areas. As for light and camera trigger wires I have always used the rear back up light positive wire.
