Hello
I've updated my thread but as its electrical help I need people who will probably know what to do will not read it? Its basically finding what wires off the Nato connector belong to what light as I've cut it off....not colour coded or numbered... please update the thread below. http://www.defender2.net/forum/posting.php?mode=reply&t=43181 many thanks |

cable cores will be numbered at 400mm spacing from memory
or trip maplins for multimeter and con test cable cores |

Hello
I've stripped back more than 40cm of cable hoping it would be marked...they are not I have a mulimeter but from what I understand as I have cut the lead I need to touch one end to the cut off cable leads and the other to a the lights at the back of the trailer... which it does not reach? Is this correct Thanks |

must have started using end to end marking only no use to you
and your right touch one end to the cut off cable leads and the other to a the lights at the back of the trailer. |

If you can't get the ends near, buy some 1mm cable or something and use that as a temp continuity testing lead with some mini bull dog clips or something.
Will cost you a few pennies on eBay, it'll at least allow you to I.D. the wiring. Just use some white electrical tape and permanent marker to label each feed. Once labelled and I.D.'d you can wire to 12N or whichever towing type you're aiming for. No Guts, No Glory. 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

That'd do, it doesn't need to be anything specifically or perfect just enough to detect continuity around the whole circuit. No Guts, No Glory.

I did the same when I converted my sankey - chopped the plug off and then realised the cable cores are tagged at the end.
Find the earth cores, connect to a battery and then dab each other core on and see what lights up |

No idea how different they are but on mine (MkIII) the cable went to a waterproof box under the chassis at the front and connected to the trailer lights through there. I just ditched the original cable altogether and ran, in my case, 13 core cable to a new 13 pin plug as I have an onboard fridge and aux batteries so needed charging and to run the fridge when hooked up. No point in messing with the NATO wiring if you don't need to.
The trailer wiring itself is colour coded on mine and it's easy enough to identify the wires anyway as there aren't that many circuits and they use a common earth. It's just the cable from the plug to the wiring box that uses NATO wiring. Obviously it may be different on yours ! http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/ |

Why not rip out all the old wiring and start from fresh? or am I missing something? Optimists say the glass is half full..
Pessimists say the glass is half empty.. Engineers say the glass is twice the size it needs to be! |
