We knew it was coming
But maybe not how unfair it would be.......

What's unfair about that? Only thing not right is that it does not work both directions yet, but that is just a matter of time, this here is a good start which already exists on the entire continent for years.
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

It's the both directions thing I'm talking about Eric.
If you speed, you get caught, you pay the fine. But not if you're an eu driver in the U.K. It seems. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results.

Don't worry Rallymental. Won't ever come to drive in your country where everybody continuously drives on the wrong side of the road. Rolling Eyes That should be fined too. Laughing

I know Europe's full of people on the wrong side Rolling with laughter

There are many many things wrong with the speed limits and motoring approach in the UK, fundamentally im against this access to details stuff, eitherway or any way - its wrong, but that is more about personal freedoms than anything else...unfortunately its a wider point that people seem not to care about.

I suppose the size of the fine is interesting, but what i do like about the Europe (and there are many things i do) is very few have the silly licence points system - which only highlights how screwed up the UK is in wanting to prosecute everyone for anything.

What does bug me, having driven thousands of miles in Europe - some countries (France) would probably target British drivers, ignore french drivers, regardless of the the actual offence...one reason i just avoid France! Mike

Rolling Eyes

The French police "target" people who break the law no matter what the nationality. They are as strict with French nationals as they are with foreigners. Unfortunately many Brits seem to think the law doesn't apply to them over here Rolling Eyes

Very true!
When we were living in Normandy every Brit seemed to think it was ok to get tanked up at a friends house, or local bar then jump in the car and drive home Shocked
Even though the limit was lower than the UK.

They all seemed to work along the lines as it was rural, there would be no Police around??
Their attitude to the law was quite poor really, I wouldn't have wanted to mess with the police over there! 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered.

What a shockingly terrible piece of journalism. No facts or references to the law in question so we can corroborate the claim. Just sensationalism bordering on xenophobia.

It makes me doubt the validity of the whole story. HR064 Hampshire and Berkshire 4x4 Response

The good thing about speeding fines is that they are entirely voluntary - if you don't speed you don't have to pay them.

In defence of the Daily Mail. 53.4% of the British public wouldn't have a clue about politics without it.
