Some advise from all you knowledgeable chaps...
I'm needing to get a new grease gun and while checking prices online, I found a 'mini' grease gun... I only grease my prop shafts and tie-rod ends will be added when the non-grease ones wear out. Would the mini work or is it better to go for a standard gun? Mini: 30cc & 1000psi Standard: 400cc & 2500+psi Thanks in advance Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. Wanner if you can find one on ebay. New they're crazy expensive, but used ones are pretty cheap. Swiss made and unlike the cheap ones the end actually seals onto nipples properlly yet is still easy to remove. You can operate them one handed as they're the small type you fill from a pot rather than the large cartridge ones. They're extremely high powered especially for their size.

If you can get hold of a Swiss made Wanner, then that is all you need I have had a Wanner for twenty five years and it is still as good today as the day I bought it, fiddly to fill but works like a charm. Failing that then any good trigger pump gun from Machine mart or Screwfix will be good. Personally I would go for one that fits a grease cartridge as filling the spring loaded guns from a can of grease is a chore. I bought a Wanner in 1965 when I was an apprentice and it's still in use today. It's even better when fitted with a flex hose for those awkward to get at grease nipples. Thoroughly recommend Wanner Defender 90XS SW

The one in the first picture looks rather like the RS one that I have in my work tool bag. The only good thing I can say about it is that it's small. I wish I had the space for a less rubbish one.

Thanks for all the replies
My main reason for going for a mini, was space in my 'rover box'. Cupboard: That is indeed the RS one, and is only ZAR20 more than a normal one. Can you confirm that it does the UJ's? Hello Bushpig
I have 3 all essentially doing the same job, but I always use the smallest Gun to Grease the Prop Shaft UJ's, often without moving the vehicle forward I will get to all of them because the small Gun will be more maneuverable within the space available...and as you say...it's a smaller bit of kit to carry too. The two alloy Guns are Tecalemit, British Products...now described as 'Vintage Tools' these were my fathers, used on 1950 Motor Cycles...still going strong... But that would mean using my inferior work grease on my Defender I'll have a go tomorrow. |

I use my dad's Wanner. It is probably 50 years old and works well. 2002 110 td5
