Also,
I am considering shaving with a grinding disc. Are the drums liable to shatter with a bit of work applied to them? |

I have considered but it mounts to the same point. What diameter are they compared?
Can the callipers be mounted elsewhere as the drum is right up to the rear foot well box, too mount callipers won't fit at all. A bit spendy at the mo too! |

I can't think of any reason why the transmission drum brake would rub on the chassis if it's installed properly ??? What have you modified to make it rub ?
As others have said though, a disk brake conversion is a lot smaller than a drum, the calliper normally mounts at the top. http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/ |

Indeed, I can't imagine why it would rub on the chassis !

I'm off this week, if you need to look at an x-eng handbrake? I put one on the 90.
Why won't it fit? His 110 isn't exactly standard. |

Rakeway engineering do their own cable disc handbrake to fit on the back of the LT230 coupled with their own short output adaptor. I cannot find a picture but having seen one it is fairly compact. I would drop them an email.

Erm yes, it's not what we call an original spec Land Rover .
I'll give Neale a bell later, see if he may be able to skim some meat off the drum. He's done plenty of small bits for this over the past couple years. I have considered the shorter output housings, both Syncros and Rakeway. But trying to avoid the cost. Would mean yet another custom rear prop too! Rakeway is 70mm shorter I beleive, Syncros is 65mm. Both however do away with the speedo drive, which I have now modified to supply my dials. If not, I may just prop the 2 left wheels up and lye underneath with a grinding disc :p! With someone sat near the brakes for my H&S fulfilment . Greeni, cheers for the offer dude! I have so many reasons I need to pop to see you! Lack of time atm is my biggest downfall with everything! Hency why everything is taking so long! |

Not sure of the legalities surrounding it but could you remove the conventional handbrake altogether and use a hydraulic system that locks the normal brakes?
Is that an OM606 by the way? |

There's 1 or 2 legal hydraulic systems. Again, looked into it, but it's trying to keep everything a little sensible now :p!
Several mechanical systems too, plenty in fact. But just want it back on the road now. Stuff like that can come down the line. Don't "need" it in an Auto really, just for MOT and to stop defending me from screeching on the chassis and reducing vibration when running. |
