If you want a pre-owned genuine wing, your best best is to keep looking on eBay. They do come up from time-to-time, and there are reputable breakers and dismantlers out there.

It is unusual for people to remove and sell the front wings from undamaged Defenders, so a write-off is the only realistic source. The problem you face when on a front wing hunt is that is it almost impossible to write-off a Defender without destroying the front wings!

My Defender, when I bought it (pre-owned), had previously had a bash to the fns wing which has been very badly repaired. Although it looked good at the time, seven years later the paint is peeling off and the full incompetence of the repair has become apparent. I decided some years ago to get hold of a spare wing to replace it, and it took me around 2 years and at least two unsuccessful attempts to purchase a good, as-new, second-hand wing. They also fetch high prices if they are genuine and in excellent condition.

You will also be incredibly lucky if you find one the right colour, and I strongly suggest that if you find one the wrong colour you buy it anyway, it isn't hard to get it reprayed before fitting.

By the way TD5 and TDCi wings are identical and interchangeable, although the inner wing is steel on the TD5 and plastic on the TDCi. The inner wings can be swapped over. You will also find that XS-spec TDCis have a quilted "incontinence pad" on the inner wing, fitted in a pathetic and wholly unsuccessful attempt to add noise suppression to the engine bay (it's either that or in case you are caught short), but again it doesn't alter the fit.

You will find that some vehicles (and it seems impossible to predict which, but later TDCis are more likely than earlier ones) have the headlamp panel pre-punched to take headlamp washer jets. I am not sure why this is, it may even be that it was done to use up leftover panels as production ran out. This won't be a problem provided that you have the normal plastic trim panels round the headlights, or panels of equivalent size, but some aftermarket trims may not cover the holes. My replacement wing, off a late-model TDCi XS station wagon, had the incontinence pad and the headlamp washer holes. My 2007 County spec DCPU has neither. I am still undecided whether my OCD will allow me to fit the panel with the washer holes if the one on the other side doesn't have them! No-one will seem but I will know that they are there! Shocked

Thanks for the advice blackwolf 👍🏻
I think I will go down the eBay route, I rang the dealers and they want £500 just for the top and front part then another £100 odd for the outer wing😳
How can they justify them prices😡
Thanks Ash
