Correct on 14V or so, mine tends to sit a bit lower than that when warm. Careful of moving parts, and make sure you are testing to a decent ground point, I find you need to scratch around on the block at times to get one!!

As said above, correct and good advice... Its probably your rectifier or it needs servicing. You can get kits on ebay to repair it. 2010 Range Rover MkIII Autobiography Super Charged (Idris)

You don't need to measure near the engine. You can take the fuse cover off and measure there if that is easier. My 90 td5 produces 14,1 V normally without any electrics switched on. It is not a steady signal most voltmeters don't react that quickly so you see a steady 14V but in fact it fluctuates between 13 and 14V. Roel

A fairly common problem on the TD5 is for the vacuum pump mounted at the front of the alternator to leak oil into the alternator itself, causing it to fail.
Since the alternator/vac pump is only available as a single assembly, there isn't a great deal you can do about this except replace the entire unit. It is also common on high mileage engines for the the slip rings and brishes to wear excessively. Again, it doesn't seem possible to buy replacement slip rings for these alternators (at least, I can't find any) so replacement is really the only option. |

it could be a snapped ancil belt, which means coolant not been circulated. check under bonnet first, assuming you have not seen vehicle?
if belt is good then as above. Cheers James 110 2012 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |
