Hi really depends on the age of the safari snorkel. Earlier ones had an interval pipe that replaced the existing intake ducting and connected to the LR piping. The later version lacked the pipe and fits to the wing and relies on silicone to seal the air ducting.
If you have the earlier version you will have to source the inner wing air ducts and external wing grille. You will also have three large holes to fill in the wing where the snorkel fixed to it. Then there are the four holes in the windscreen frame, which although tiny and can easily be filled a word of warning is that the foam pad that safari snorkels came with to protect the paintwork from the metal bracket does have the habit of pulling the paint off with it... Due to having an external roll cage I have had to remove my safari snorkel, earlier version, and have plugged he holes with grommets for now. Cannot decide on the best direction to go for a permanent fix. Suspect plate from behind, fill and respiratory the wing. But for now the grommets are doing a grand job. Why get rid? |

Hi Many thanks for your advice. I think the snorkel was new in 2013. I'm going to remove it as I only do very light off road stuff, I think they look really ugly and I was also thinking of an external show cage around windscreen so I'll take it off and try and sell it. Then as you said try and get someone to do a permanent fix for me.
I'm new to defender ownership so learning a lot on here (always loved them). By the way what grommets did you use to temporarily fill the 4 door pillar and three wings holes ? Cheers Stu |

Hi Stu. Yes snorkels are a love hate item for sure. I am afraid you have caught me here. I have not repaired the windscreen damage yet, just grommets in the wing. If you would like I could take a photo for you.
As for cages. I have a safety devices cage and love it, but there are other companies P&P cages etc that are equally as good. Plenty of advice on here about them... Also a love hate item I would think... |

Not yet... I was probably just going to put some stainless bolts over the holes left.
Not sure about the ones in the windscreen yet though. Tried to take the snorkel off yesterday... right hand bolt (philips head) came out okay, left hand one had an allen key head and the nut behind the body started slipping and I didin't have a socket set with me so a job for another day. Then I think i'll need a grill I assume to cover the hole! |

Yes a side vent will be required, let us know the solution you use to get the solvent off the wing that's left from the snorkel I believe it's a bit of a to get off.
