By chance, I have mine in bits at the moment. This was taken before I dismantled it so I could put it back together again!
It's from a '92 tdi but shouldnt' be too different. Here are the holes that my motor can fit too.
Click image to enlarge This is the motor fitted how I think it goes??? Click image to enlarge But the dashboard won't fit and it either gets stuck on the piece of metal above or the dash. Click image to enlarge and here is the wiper rack... I do have a video of it moving I will try to upload to youtube So as it stands at the moment the wiper motor with moves and gets stuck on things or the rotation of the wiper is only small. I'm stuck done everything I can think of. Help 2001 90 TD5 CSW Alveston Red Manual |

Ah, ok. It is quite different after all. A quick Google for images suggests that your motor isn't positioned correctly. It looks like it should be more vertical so that the drive out is essentially a straight line, and that the gearbox tucks behind the angled metal structure of the dash top.
The pictures I've found aren't brilliant but may help: Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? thanks for the reply guys.
The is getting stuck. On the drivers side should the wiper rack protrude through the tube at the end? Although I've been trying tonight and got the rack completely stuck, the motor had caused a kink in it because it was pushing and not going anywhere. Any ideas on how to budge the seized rack on the cogs? Or should I give up and go to a garage now.. Thanks Tim 2001 90 TD5 CSW Alveston Red Manual |

I can't get to the drivers side because the blower is in the way.
I've had the console off but can't get one screw out. However I'm going to try and unscrew the wiper box tomorrow with the blower still there. I've manadged to free one side. The saga continues 2001 90 TD5 CSW Alveston Red Manual |

How did you fit the rack ?
Did you remove the wiper arms and feed it through the spindle gearboxes so they spun as you fed it through ? I wonder if you've got the older style rack instead of the newer one... the older one being longer by around 6 inches... http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/ |

I've just been through all of this with mine. You need to take out the instrument binnacle and probably the plastic cowl that it fits into in order to get at the screws that hold the windscreen blower in place. I say probably as I have a Raptor metal cowl that has different cut outs to the standard one, so I didn't need to remove that bit. The rack that you've replaced passes through three metal tubes - one either end and one between the wiper wheel boxes. If you've put a new one in without slackening off the connections between the tubes and wheel boxes then it's probably just kinked as it' passed through. The only real solution is to strip out the top of the dash to gain access. The rack shouldn't project out beyond the end of the end tube on the drivers side. The one I've just fitted was a lot longer than the one I took out so it was necessary to cut it down to suit with a hacksaw and then file off the end until it was smooth.
