2005 Defender 110 2.5 TD SW Zambezi Silver

Wiring Electrically Heated Seats.

I've had an auto electrician look at the seat wiring on my 2005 Defender 110 Td5 Station Wagon. There are heating pads in the seats. The wiring is all present under the seats to connect the seat pads. What is missing is the wiring from the seats themselves to the switches on the dash plus the switches themselves (blanked off at present). The electrician has confirmed that there is no seat wiring behind the blanks. I have done a little research and have found that the wiring from seats to switches costs around £200. Is there a cheaper alternative? I don't want to spend so much money on something I'll only use a few times a year!

1994 Defender 90 200 Tdi HT Montalcino Red

You only need the switches two fuses and some 2mm thin walled cable, fused live to switch then from switch to seat, earth from seat to body.
No relay needed, not timer if Genuine seats as they have a heat cut off

Hi,

I just bought some used original heated seats from a Defender which I wanted to wire up. It's going into a Ninety so I wanted to go for the universal type of switches of this type:

Now this offers the possibility of having 2 levels. The original wiring has the seat and the back connected in series. So I thought of making level 2 in parallel and level one in series.

Question is, will the heat elements manage the parallel connection and not overheat? Any experience?

Thanks but the seats I've bough already have the heating installed. So I just wonder if I can use them they way I intended without damaging them.

consider options on ebay from Weaco, they sell sets for around £20 for one seat with all the wiring, scrap their pads and use their wiring kit. in fact their pads are good to. Cheers

I use the Genuine switches the FCX kit with Waeco pads.
Never seen the need to use the warm up, I've used it before and it heats fast and then you have to change over.
The constant setting is more than adequate and heats up just as quick.

So I just use single pole switchng fir constant heat using Genuine switches. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

@ custom90steve Yes that is probably what I'm gonna end up doing. Genuine switches won't fit the style though. They would look strange in a 1989 Ninety with no other switch looking like that

@jst I know there are all kinds of sets i can buy but I was trying to find out if somebody had tried connecting them in parallel and if they would manage with direct 12V supply to each element. I'm not interested tearing my perfect seats apart yet
