285/75 and 16 inch wheels give you a wheel / tyre combination height of 83.39cm

So you get 3cm more diff clearance assuming I've done the maths right. BFG AT 235/85 are �126.50 and the same in 285/75 are �142.60 at camskill so assuming for the case of argument that's what you pay, you're paying 80 quid for 3 cm of ground clearance on the tyres alone, plus you need different wheels to the boosts and quite a bit more than 80 quid.

I'm all for modifications, but this is one I don't understand. Ok if you're doing challenge events in your purpose built trayback then you might want big simex tyres etc, but for standard defender use ie road, green lanes, beach, quarry etc, I'm not getting this 285 thing Or is it just that they look better? If so then fair enough

Russ, I wouldn't trust that.... It is the tyre company that lays out the peramaters or their tyres. Also you will find out that some 285s are only 275 wide and others can be upto 305 wide depending on what tollerences they are made to.

I love 255's but you really need a lift to use them and from what some have said Puma's don't like being lifted.

My thinking was, the're the same diameter as the 285's and they didn't rub so the 255' should be OK I'll have to get her on full articulation and find out Original Member Pie n Pea Club.

That's interesting - sounds like they are being really picky to get out of paying for anything. So much for customer satisfaction

I guess that as 285s are not on the current option list and never were for the Puma they can do that. John
