Halo headlamps.
There has been a nice grey 90 driving around my area for the last few weeks, we keep passing and putting our hands up,
Tonight he was approaching a roundabout and had his indicator on, it was only then I noticed his halo around the LED light lense was flashing yellow along with the front indicator.

Never seen them before,
Anyone know what make of lights would be? 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered.

Please, please be careful. Halo headlights with indicators may well be E marked but are they legal on a Defender with separate front direction indicators?

According to Vehicle Lighting Regulations for front direction indicators

Quote:

1. No vehicle shall be fitted with a total of more than one front indicator nor more than two rear indicators, on each side.
2. Any number of side indicators may be fitted to the side (excluding the front and rear) of a vehicle.

Under ECE-R48 § 6.5.2 Only 2 front indicators

Rear direction indicators 2 obligatory and 2 optional

Yes I have them Ian, great headlights but cant tell if they are exactly the same make. You can wire them up in different ways, so its optional to have the halo flash orange with the indicator. I do have it set up that way and so far no problems here in France at least. First CT (MOT) is the end of 2018 so we'll see if they say anything about it, but in my experience of French CT guys Rolling with laughter I doubt it will be a problem. Mine have an E mark btw.

Whistle I hate to say this but there doesn't appear to be any 'E' markings on those light at all... So they'll fail and it's a nick Shocked

I had a look on a chinese wholesale site and there are shed loads of 7" led headlamps, for a third of that cost... but they are aimed squarely at the American market... sold as Jeep upgrades.. so they are DOT marked and most definitely LHD setup.. So I would be very wary..... RRC 2.4 TD... it's either a stretched 90 or shrunken 110!!

Flatdog do them, but can't comment on legality, say they're E marked?

I have the the standard Flatdog angel eyes and have been pleased with them. They have been described as 'a bit gay'!! But nothing wrong with that Thumbs Up James

Cheers guys, I did look to see if they were E marked but I too could see no markings?

I'm running Trucklites at the moment, but I wouldn't say they are the greatest light regarding full beam.

If you zoom in on that headlight photo 1 there does NOT appear to be any markings on the lens.

It is possible that it is an optical effect of the photograph, or it may well be a pre production model.

Looking at that photograph there is no apparent evidence that they are E marked or even for RHD vehicles

Third photograph shows an E9 mark on the back of the unit but none on the lens in the first photograph where they are supposed to be. It is possible I might have missed them.

IP rating of 67 which is bare minimum

No mention of legal requirement on cars for only one front indicator per side for a car. So need to disconnect the existing indicator on a Defender

Have no real idea on requirements for indicators on motor bikes but a quick look at VLR shows

Quote:

Minimum separation distance between indicators on opposite sides of a vehicle–

A solo motor bicycle having an engine exceeding 50 cc and first used on or after 1st April 1986–
(1)Front indicators: 300 mm

Quote:

Minimum separation distance between a front indicator and any dipped-beam headlamp or front fog lamp–

(B)Fitted to a solo motor bicycle or a motor bicycle combination in either case first used on or after 1st April 1986: 100 mm

So I am struggling with the legality of these lights.
