Wing Mirror Help!
Hi all

Having a slight disagreement with an insurance company/body shop, hope you can help.

Quick version - my wing mirror got smashed off (including the arm) and the other party are paying it to be fixed. The body shop sourced a wing mirror from the local LR Dealership, based on my chassis number, but its completely different to the ones already on the vehicle!

The passenger side one (original, as far as I know) is stamped with Britax III E2 00463.

The new one is much larger and simply says Britax, no part number that I can see. It looks notably cheaper and also vibrates much more than the other one did.

The LR Dealer claims the new one is genuine LR stock part, though for the life of me I can't recall seeing the new mirror on any other recent Landy, so something smells fishy!

Can someone do me a favour and check what is fitted to your Landy? Mine is a 2012, in case that makes a difference!

Mine looks like your passenger side.

I lost one to a tree at the end of last year, a replacement is £8....

Cheers Miker - TBH I'm less bothered about the price, more the principle that (it looks to me) that the LR Dealer is taking the proverbial.

The reason for this being and insurance job is that (a) it was the other parties fault and (b) also required paintwork to put right. And as the truck has less than 20,000 miles on it, I want it "right".

Anyone else? If you have part numbers for the original mirrors, even better!

Your Passenger side mirror is correct, the other one looks nasty

Mine (MY2016) is identical to the passenger door . Ridiculous for the Dealer to fit a non matching mirror head. There do seem to be larger mirror heads available though.

All Defenders until the last of the line came from the factory with mirrors like the one in the picture of your passenger side. The one they now fitted on your driver side I have never seen before, surely it has nothing to do with Land Rover at all. Looks horrible.

Why don't you walk into any JLR dealership and ask the parts department for the mirror part number? They'll get it from microcat in a second.
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Looking in the parts catalogue, there are two different RH mirrors available.

CRB503570 is the standard one (the same as your left hand one), it will actually fit either side.

CRB503580 is an alternative one (the same as the new one you've had fitted), it seems to be listed as Australian spec, the LH AUS one is CRB503590.

They are correct in that they're both Genuine Land Rover parts, but clearly they've not ordered the correct one.

Austrian spec is right, though the part is doubly wrong as the spec is listed as 1983 through to 2006 so not only the wrong mirror head part but the wrong age for your 2012 Defender.

Even if the wrong part was in the right box who ever fitted it must be a right numpty not noticing the difference.
Perhaps both the fitter and the dealership management should book a visit to Specsavers. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

.

That Aus part number is also listed in the 2007 onwards catalogue, which would make it correct for a 2012 (Australian) car.

This is true, i had an L322 rear wiper motor last year it was the later type with the early type part number label on the box.

You would hope the fitter queried the discrepancy mind you.

Fitter's job is to fit the part from the box on the car as per orders. Not to question what it is. Particularly the case if the bodyshop is not LR specialised.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Well that is a worry in that case. I would hope if I took my very expensive Land Rover into a LR dealership that the guy working on my car was able to use his own brain and wasn't just doing things by numbers. Shocked Seriously, if whoever fitted that mirror couldn't see it was different to the other one and question that, then, they're in the wrong job. Rolling Eyes I just hope they dont go onto working on aircraft.

So if the car had a damaged alloy wheel, but a steel replacement turned up they'd just fit it.... Laughing

I think anyone with half a brain would at least point out the discrepancy. If then even after doing so they're still ordered to fit it, fair enough, but you'd still like to think the fitter would have posed the question.

Guys - my point exactly - Censored state of affairs whichever way you look at it.

Disappointing, as this shop has had a really good rep for paint and bodywork Sad

And as for the LR dealer arguing its the right part.... Big Cry
