That's a glowing reference! I bought one at Billing last year and had it sitting on my shelves ever since! Maybe I should make it my next job after painting the rear crossmember, fixing the side steps, touching up the Dinitrol, fixing the leaks etc etc!

Ha, it's been on my list for ages too. I finally decided to buy one after reading another few good reviews (and having a bad day at work - buying stuff for the defender always makes you feel betterer).
It is such a worthwhile modification/upgrade. It will literally take you half hour, go get it out of the shed. You'll wish you did it when you got home from Billing a year ago! TD5 Defender 90 Discovery 3 HSE |

Sounds like a good upgrade. But if your selector cup ( part of the Syncro kit ) is worn already then just changing that makes a large difference. Even the genuine Landrover part is not expensive.

Indeed, correclty setting your bias springs also helps getting rid of some of the gear stick 'wobble' and could make gear selection a bit easier (my bias springs were all out so not only did I have a very wobbly gearstick, but to get in to 3rd I had to kind of push left a bit as going - adjusting the springs resolved).
However, I wanted a tighter, shorter throw into gears. Fed up of whacking my knuckles on the raptor dash or deafening myself by hitting the volume knob So, if you're not bothered about travel from one gear to the next, then replace the nylon cup and fiddle with your springs to lose some wiggle. If you want a complete overhaul which makes you feel like you're driving with a normal, tight and modern gearbox, fit this kit Pic for reference; TD5 Defender 90 Discovery 3 HSE |

Ok, after it taking up space on my shelf for too long I've finally fitted my slick shift...and i like it! Gear changes are tighter and it gave me the chance to take up the wobble in the stick by adjusting the bias springs. Thanks HuffHuff for the push 2002 Defender 110 CSW TD5

I purchased one at a Land rover show and fitted it myself, which I found fairly straightforward. However I could not for the life of me adjust the bias plate lined up.. getting 3rd and 4th lined up would push out 1st and second and vice versa. Since then whilst having work done at two different reputable Land Rover specialists I have asked them to have a go at correcting and they have both been unable to get the changes lined up correctly. Not sure whether to keep trying or just take mine off.

JustFX - I noticed the same when I fitted the Slickshift to a recon R380 box, after 500 miles it had loosened a touch and was much better. During the first 2k miles I adjusted the bias springs 2 or 3 times and it's held position nicely since then.
Whilst the turret is off its well worth checking the grub screw holding the yoke on the selector shaft is tight, mine came loose a couple of months back and the whole thing had to come apart again 2005 Td5 110 Hardtop 1989 300Tdi 90 Soft top 1992 200Tdi 90 Truck cab with Land Cruiser axles |
