So the fuel gauge packed up Sunday, a warning 'pinging' noise accompanied by the needle on zero and the fuel light on ... Knew i had qtr tank but stuck another £30 in just to be sure
![]() Was hoping it was a glitch, but 3 days later it's still the same ... Is there a 'known' common problem, or is the tank going to need removing??? Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant. |

It would be interesting if you could let us know if you do get any odd effects running like this. If the LR published information is correct, it should begin by inducing a simulated "fuel starvation" misfire, which will clear on cycling the ignition for a few times, then persist, and ultimately then inhibit engine start to prevent the system completely running out.
I don't know if it is clever enough to determine that a sudden transition from plenty of fuel to zero fuel can only be due to a fault (or, I suppose, theft) and therefore inhibit the strategy, or if it will assume that you're running out and behave as predicted. |

73 miles later and It's still driving as it should

Have you checked the plug on the rear of the IPAC is secure? TheThunder Rollsπ¬π§πΊπΈ

Steve makes a good point, perhaps the issue is at the IPAC not the sender or ECU. If it is a sender fault and the ECU thinks the tank is empty, I am very surprised that it is still running.
It would be interesting to hook up a diagnostic tool and see what fuel level the ECU is reporting. If it is not empty, it points to an IPAC problem. |

I did unplug the cluster for a few minutes and re-connected [just in case] Also disconnected the battery for 10 minutes ... both made no difference.
I don't have any diagnostic tools good enough for that sort of info on a Defender ... ![]() I'm with the Bro in law at the weekend, I assume I can temporarily swap the ipac for his one just to see if gauge works Blackwolf? Or are they specifically programmed to each individual vehicle's ecu? Ta Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant. |

Since the IPAC is an integral part of the security sytem (with the AS10 and ECM) I doubt you can just swap one over, unfortunately.

I was going to suggest a manual check, just thought checking the plug for the IPAC would be best to try first.

Had a very quick look yesterday.
IPAC is fine, gauge works if plugged into bro in law's puma, his IPAC doesn't work in mine. Assume It's not sender unit [As vehicle is still driving faultlessly] so that only leaves a wiring issue somewhere [I feckin HATE wiring issues!] It can stay like that til I can be bothered .... ![]() |

Could possibly be debris damage from underneath.

With the IPAC unplugged
check wiring in stages i.e. from your IPAC to the engine bay chassis harness plug with multimeter to start with, next chassis harness plug to driver side rear wheel arch not plug I no will have to unwrap harness and find two wires green / orange 0,75 and yellow / purple 0,75. I have used pins and the multimeter con check end to end both wires if ok at this point your wiring problem from hear to tank or the sender Using pins and the multimeter con check across the two wires see if you get reading i.e. fuel tank sender |
