Many thanks for the link. But my year of birth brings no results Big Cry Big Cry

I found a bottle on ebay says it's a 1971 but bottled in 1977. So you reckon I can claim that as my year of birth? 110 D250 SE HT

Does it have to be Port?
There seems to be a fair bit of wine around, or maybe Rum? The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results.

1971 wasn't declared as vintage by any of the major shippers. If you find 1971 it's either from an obscure producer (poor quality) or it's a Late Bottled Vintage Port which isn't the same thing and will be totally knackered by now.

1970 was excellent if you can bear to go a year earlier.
Next declared vintage was 1975. Only declared because of the revolution. Wasn't very good 20 years ago, will be far worse now.

1971 was decent for Bordeaux. Needs drinking up, but still interesting if you can afford.

This might help: https://www.erobertparker.com/newsearch/vintageChart1.aspx

I spent my 20s in the Wine Trade. Still miss it a bit, but not the lack of money.

Many thanks, I was after a bottle to put away and open on my 50th. So I might have to look at 1970, I was born in Jan71 so it's almost 1970. Rolling with laughter

I did wonder about the later bottled port. The vendor on ebay was very quick with a response but very thin on facts. Best left alone. 110 D250 SE HT

There's nothing wrong with Late Bottled Vintage (LBV), it's just not meant to be aged. Difference between the styles of Port is basically where it aged.
Vintage Port is bottled early and does all its ageing in bottle. This takes ages.
LBV is bottled after a few years when it's done most of the required ageing in cask. Most LBV is filtered before bottling so it doesn't need decanting. There are some 'premium' LBVs that do extra ageing in the bottle, but they're rare.
Tawny (in theory) is aged in barrel for ages before bottling. In practice, it's often a blend of red and white port.
Ruby port is just young port designed to be drunk young (best in cooking, though there are a few good ones out there).

In general, stick to the names that sound British! That way you'll avoid the really obscure rubbish.
