There's nothing wrong with Late Bottled Vintage (LBV), it's just not meant to be aged. Difference between the styles of Port is basically where it aged.
Vintage Port is bottled early and does all its ageing in bottle. This takes ages.
LBV is bottled after a few years when it's done most of the required ageing in cask. Most LBV is filtered before bottling so it doesn't need decanting. There are some 'premium' LBVs that do extra ageing in the bottle, but they're rare.
Tawny (in theory) is aged in barrel for ages before bottling. In practice, it's often a blend of red and white port.
Ruby port is just young port designed to be drunk young (best in cooking, though there are a few good ones out there).

In general, stick to the names that sound British! That way you'll avoid the really obscure rubbish.

WOW, thanks for the comprehensive answer and information. I have 1/2 doz bottles of Taylors in the cupboard to get through, so will prob stick with them when it comes to my purchase.

I'm sure one will be found. I've got a bottle of port in a wooden case somewhere. I'm now intrigued as to what year it is.

I suppose it's better than searching for a Series motor that was registered on your birth date. (DDMMYY) ! I gave up.
