I bought mine from P A Blanchards ebay shop

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Land-Rover-Defender-...20b6c710c8

Their advert says they will post worldwide, but best to ask them first. When ordering/paying be sure to specify if its for a left or right hand drive vehicle. Mine came bare metal which Im getting sprayed when my 300tdi gets resprayed soon.

I have one on my 110 (actually, i've just taken it off), Porny, AKA Ian Boughn sells them at IRB, but it doubt you'll ever get hold of him...ever!

anyway, like was said, it's a "snow shield", stops the grille getting blocked with, um, snow, that sits on top of the wing.

It's also good for keeping water/mud etc out of the heater pipework, expecially if you regularly do a lot of "camel type" water splashes... its amazing how much mud works its way down into the heater.

It will, however, impede the air flow into the heater by quite a bit. I found (on my td5) that position 1 with the heater was more or less redundant, to get any air flow out of it (to warm the cab) had to be on pos2, which then got too hot after a while, and getting fed up with the fan going flat out, clock it back to pos1 then get cold again after 10 miles.

I suspect if it was used properly, in snowy conditions, it would generally be much colder than the UK, so the heater would be on pos2 maximum all the time, so one would be used to the noise etc.

My one:

on about the air intake, check inside now and again as there is a rubber 'valve' at the back of intake to let rain water etc drain out, this gets glogged up and can lead to the water being drawn into the heater then onto the passenger footwell. 2.4 90 XS

On the Puma there are two rubber valves (Teet's?) on the heater intake box, unless they where removed at PDI that is.

'Snow Cowl' - as fitted to the Royal Marine's original Winterised 110s, Royal Netherlands Marine's 110s, Winter/Wading Wolf XD, as well as the Courtaulds Aerospace CAV100 (now known as NP Aerospace CAMAC CAV100), also called 'Snatch' by squaddies and the press.

Available as LH or RH fitment from Land Rover for silly-money (I have the part numbers somewhere)

I got mine direct from Courtaulds Aerospace back in the early 90's

I had to buy 10 to make up the minimum order value, so I ordered 5 x LH and 5 x RH, kept one of each for myself and sold the rest.

Here are mine fitted to my 110 (the LH one doesn't really do anything, but it 'evens-up' the front end Embarassed )

Grockle, there is one under the heater fan unit and you need to push in past the hoses to get too it (Left arrow). The other one is just under the plastic intake duct (Right arrow) towards the rear.

Mid this year there will be a version made of ABS plastic in LHD and RHD for a VERY reasonable price. The good side on the plastic one is that it will not punch 2 holes in your wing in case of a minor "off road accident" like the metal one does. WANTED:

SII or SIII in max 1.5k
