This one's worth reading too if you are interested in the psychology of driver behaviour. Written in an easy to read style. Fascinating and amusing!

From Highway Code

Quote:

Rule 223
Buses, coaches and trams. Give priority to these vehicles when you can do so safely, especially when they signal to pull away from stops. Look out for people getting off a bus or tram and crossing the road.

Do buses have the right to pull out in front of other traffic? Probably not in strict legal terms, i.e. need to drive with due care and consideration etc.

Now I know a stretch of road where the bus stops are extremely close to traffic islands which basically means traffic can not legally overtake the buses whilst they are at a bus stop as the traffic islands have keep left arrows on. Now I can see a safety argument for this combination of traffic island and bus stops. Now the only problem is that it causes traffic to build up which tails back to the village cross road traffic light controlled which causes other problems.

Now if drivers actually observed rule 223 the chances are that traffic in our locality would flow freer in rush hour.

Is the Highway code law or is it like the pirate code, merely 'guidelines' (sorry got to be said with a Bristolian accent)

Rolling with laughter

looks like some codes are guidelines and some are law, as Jack Sparrow would say, 'keep to the code'.

Anger management required in general, I think! Aggression and driving are a fatal mix ....
