Vehicle mounted compressor
I've had a quick search but struggled to find a relevant thread. I'm considering fitting an air compressor in my 110 to be available for service air (tyre inflation) and inflating an air beam tent.

I'm looking at something like the high output 12v ARB CKMA12.

Does anyone have experience of using one of these to inflate an airbeam tent?
Does anyone know if this unit can be mounted somewhere in the engine bay/inside the front wing? And then having the outlet available through something like the GMB fender locker

i fitted a tmax single piston head, under the drivers seat (2.4 Puma) is 150psi, £37, and runs for long periods no problem.

in my case it feeds a GP manifold that then feeds a PCL fitting, on board air tank (9L), lockers front and rear. Cheers

I have this model in my 110 for tyres and camping just as you suggest Thumbs Up

Internet told me to put it in the engine bay in the wing area in front of the aircon, which turned out to a right pain in the bum access wise. Instead I mounted it right next to the battery itself, holes were drilled to both mount it and run control cables to the dash.

This:

- Avoids the issue of overheating being close to the engine in summer (when you're camping!).
- Keeps it clean.
- Means you'd have to run airlines from internal to external for any lockers (if you were to go down that route).
- The passenger get a vibrating seat option, or as the nephews like to call it, "The fart button".
- The passenger, when you actually want to use the compressor, has to be sitting in the back.

Lots of solutions and variations, as it's designed to fit almost all orientations and outlet angles, and when I installed my roll cage I could have easily got the compressor in the wing area at the same time - but hey, it works for me at the moment...

It's a nice unit, seems well put together.

Not sure of the air requirements of your tent, but the duty cycle and heat limit of any compressor needs to be taken into account.

Four tyres from low pressure/sand to road ready is about its limit (specifically designed that way). But I doubt your tent will mean it's fighting pressures like tyres, but it will still be pushing air for a while and might need a rest to cool down in the middle. Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

If.you run fittings direct off the compressor use proper heat resistant pipe.

I run mine to pcl fitting on seat box so don't have to take seat out. Its 8mm feed from pump head which I screwed a barb fitting into. Cheers

Agent Mulder, which one did you fit? One of the TMAX ones?

I have a twin battery setup under the passenger seat so would be too tight on space, also have the relays and aux fuse board under the drivers seat. In terms of space to fit I'm looking at engine bay/inside wing as I don't really want to start fitting rear wing lockers yet. Keith

I have the compressor you mentioned (ARB CKMA12), I could have gone under the drivers seat but I have an inverter in there already. The inverter is larger than the compressor, give it a try Thumbs Up

If you're going under the aircon, take off the plastic wheel arch and you should be able to get an arm up from the other direction - may prove helpful Wink

Taking the wing fully off is a right pain in the exhaust though:

Following some recommendations I'm leaning toward fitting it in a barebox on top of one of the wheel arches.

Been advised to fit some sound deadening and pick up the existing 12v supply that runs to my inverter in that area to minimise the install hassle. It should also give me somewhere to store the accessories and other tools safely. Keith

Not sure how critical it is, nor how much you planned on using it 'non-stop', but keep in mind that sound deadening could be a problem in terms of thermal insulation... Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

That's a good point.

The plan was to use it to inflate tyres and camping accessories so would be used when parked up with the lid of the barebox open to get the line out. Keith
