Tokyo
So, Tokyo is fascinating. As a poorly travelled bumpkin I feel like Karl Pilkington as I wander around.....

This morning going to the office I had to go through Shinigawa station, which was rammed with 1000s of people all heading in the same direction - an Orwellian experience. I felt like I needed indicators to go left to the coffee shop. The tube map was special:

Tonight involved a trip out for dinner to a very bright and busy part of town.....

Dinner was fantastic. I'm a bit hazy on the content but it was all good. The roads were super busy yet there were groups of 8 dressed as the Mario brothers driving full fat go karts around town. Only in Japan?

Some of the signs are quite special, I didn't eat here:

Needs must and I was quivering like a 'busy' dog when it came to pressing the right button:

So after a busy day of work and frankly what I can only call survival, I'm in the hotel bar, the Cigar and Bar. It appears you can still smoke in bars and restaurants here and there is something oddly nostalgic about the whole thing. No doubt the nostalgia will wear off when I pick up my clothes in the morning.

Its midnight and time for bed but helpfully I'm wide awake. Tomorrow could be a long day........

I travelled to Japan numerous times while working and always enjoyed going there, its clean, safe and the people are incredibly polite. Tokyo is a fascinating city and I was always glad that I had a local colleague to take me around on customer visits. I once remember getting a taxi from TCAT to a hotel in the city, the driver took me to the wrong hotel which had a similar name to the one I wanted. When we finally got to the right hotel, he would not accept any payment because he had inconvenienced me, Can you see that happening in London or any other EU city! Food is good if somewhat eclectic at times, some stuff I politely refused and the local guys thought it very funny to try to get me to eat things such as fish sperm! Rolling Eyes

I'll give the fish sperm a miss, hopefully. Here is a pic of the trek through the station in the morning. Not as busy as yesterday but still a few folk about:

+1 Smile I used to stay just around the corner from the Tower, yes a great view especially at night with everything lit up.

Try to get up will be a massive challenge. Its 3 am and I'm 'tired and emotional' following an extraordinary evening of eating drinking and yes, karaoke. I'm broken. Time for bed.
