Drills, Die grinders, impact drivers in short bursts.

impact you don't need much air for as normally only used in short bursts , die grinder/drill you will need more air
to be honest I think you will struggle to find a pto compressor or engine compressor small enough with a descent output |

To run an air drill you will need a compressor with at least 90 psi at 5.0 cfm out put. Just to keep your drill running.
Myself I would go electric. The chances of finding a pto / belt driven compressor to fit would be expensive. You may be able to find an air con compressor to do the job, but it must have it`s own oil supply for the compressor. All the best. Excuse the spelling I`am better with spanners and wires. |

I'm beginning to want one now haha most of the land rover engines have a nice indent for add ons like this, even the air con puma has a cap below the alternator |

We run air drills, wrenches etc off our tractor air compressors (for the brakes) so something non silly big should be doable and work.

I was thinking about using a belt driven Air Con pump feeding a chassis mounted tank, pity there is no ready made kits around.

Hi try and google this VMAC Underhood Air Compressors: Finally, a Truly Portable Air Compressor, they are not cheap but you can run ANY air tools including a jack hammer we use them on ford 150 over seas and run drills grinders the full nine yards I don't think you understand, these boys killed my dog

Old thread but didn't want to start a new one. A PTO driven air compressor would be the best solution for on board air. I don't think anyone makes one but I wish they did. Pretty simple for someone with the right tools to manufacture one or even just manufacture an adaptor. Could retail it for £500+ and im sure people would buy it. Not a lot of room under the bonnet for a belt driven one and 12v ones just aren't as heavy duty. 2009 2.4TDCi XS Utility Wagon.

Do a search on google for "on board air", a mate of mine got some bits from them and ran his set up with a range rover air-con pump on his disco 1 with pretty good results  , good enough for him to cut off a seized wheel bearing on the side of the road with an air grinder. Optimists say the glass is half full..
Pessimists say the glass is half empty.. Engineers say the glass is twice the size it needs to be! |

I've been thinking about this lately. I have a TDCi and I was wondering if the air conditioning compressor could be used? I think the TDCi engines take one of the Sanden SD7H15 compressors. According to the manufacturers website, this produces 154cc/rev. Not sure if that is sufficient grunt to power tools or not??

Very easy job if you don't already have air con installed. If attached to the PTO, I guess you could use transferbox oil to lubricate it. 2009 2.4TDCi XS Utility Wagon.

I suppose my question would be how much would it cost to run?
A portable petrol driven compressor with a 125cc engine might be cheaper to run than a 2.2/2.4 Diesel engine. |

I kinda meant as a bulletproof compressor for occasional use, not something you run for hours with a nail gun on the end. 2009 2.4TDCi XS Utility Wagon.
