That looks rather nice. Was the bulkhead galvanising straight forward - did you get it done yourself or buy one from somewhere like Ashtree? Galv chassis & bulkhead are on the spec sheet for my ultimate Land Rover - next one will be the 'keeper' |

The guy I bought it from had the bulkhead galvanised, thats partly why he sold it to me ( it was a non runner , not finished ) it was twisted and he couldnt get it straight, I think he gave up . I just used brute force and enthusiasm NOT an easy job. The chassis gavanising has buckled the rear crossmember , in that it structurally correct but the 'flat' rear plate ( that you see) is sort of warped with the heat. 1984 300TDi hardtop Stornoway Grey

Hi Jim
Out of interest what sort of money does a V8 disco go for if you are buying it as a donor ? HR064 Hampshire and Berkshire 4x4 Response |

Mine cost me £600 as an insurance write off, but MOT failures seem to be £500 plus .
I bought a crashed one as I thought that the engine would be OK.... that is still be be confirmed ! 1984 300TDi hardtop Stornoway Grey 1984 200TDi hardtop..... soon to be a V8 .. but which V8 ? 1974 DAF T244 4x4 wagon converted to a motorhome 1976 Jaguar XJC with supercharged engine |

Thanks Jim I have a 2000 V8i ES with only 68000 miles on the clock ( Japanese import ) and I'm in 2 minds what to do with it. Both sunroofs leak, the central locking is intermittent and occasionally the vehicle gets stuck in neutral ( electrical fault ) . I think I need to keep it for the engine and box HR064 Hampshire and Berkshire 4x4 Response |

The problem with having the later ( I presume Disco 2) auto box , is that it is electronic ( or so I have been told) and I do not know if the 'electronics' can be dissected from the loom, although I would like to know, so thats why I went for a disco 1 V8.
Yo can use a 'compushift' but I thought they were expensive, my plan was to make a shift manager from an Arduino, there are posts on you tube from people who have had a go at this , but I think when you make the project too big it never gets finished, sio I went for keeping it simple. 1984 300TDi hardtop Stornoway Grey 1984 200TDi hardtop..... soon to be a V8 .. but which V8 ? 1974 DAF T244 4x4 wagon converted to a motorhome 1976 Jaguar XJC with supercharged engine |

Yes, I swapped my hardtop and rear door with a member for his truck cab, we actually fitted it for him on my path so he could drive home,
At least some of the truck is red ! 1984 300TDi hardtop Stornoway Grey 1984 200TDi hardtop..... soon to be a V8 .. but which V8 ? 1974 DAF T244 4x4 wagon converted to a motorhome 1976 Jaguar XJC with supercharged engine |
